Question about my Eating Schedule

My daily eating schedule on most days is as follows:

Meal #1 WW Toast w/natural peanut butter
Meal #2 1/4C oatmeal, 4 egg whites, protein drink
Meal #3 3-5 oz. chicken, 1C veggies
Meal #4 3-5 oz. chicken, 1C veggies or salad, 1/2 sweet potato
Meal #5 oatmeal with scoop of protein powder
WORKOUT
Post WO Protein Shake
Meal #6 egg white omelette w/veggies

I used to have a protein shake for meal #5 (before my workout), but Assimer suggested I change to the oatmeal/protein and it's made a great difference in my energy/strength levels.

Question is: Two days a week I ONLY do cardio, so do I skip meal #5? Have it at a different time? Make it something different? I try to eat that meal 1 hour before my workout.

Thanks!

Are you putting the protein powder in with the oatmeal? I'm guess it's hot and not just blended up in a blender. If so your protein could denature. Check out the muscle milk post in the supplements forum for more info on heating whey protein.

I let the oatmeal cool and then mix in the powder...

Thanks for the heads up on the Muscle Milk. I just read the thread. Lots of information (and entertainment!)

If you want to dial in, for a competition, then I would suggest you look at the total calorie level and the % of carbs, protein, and fat. The peanut butter has some good fats in it, but I did not calculate your intake. If you are building, you want to find out the mix that works. For me, the 40, 40, 20 mix at about 15-18 calories per lb of body weight works for muscle growth without too much fat. You need to expirement - especially if cutting for a competition. Every couple weeks you will want to adjust the calorie level, and increase the protein, and reduce the carbs. But everyone is different on how they react, insulin levels, etc. So you want low glicemic carbs like sweet potato and brown rice. When you dial in the right mix, you will see great results. Good Luck

Thanks for the advice guys. Eightpack, I already track my calories and percentages and am on schedule and right where I want to be. I was just wondering if changing up the meal before a run would make a difference in performance...
