need improvement in bench pressing

i've been working out for like 6 months, and on about the frist 3 months, my max went up quicking, like 5 lbs a week, but when i get to 185 i am like stuck there. is there anyway to improve benchpress big in a short period of time??? thank u

big in ashort amount of time, no, u nfortunally these things take time so bare with it. More you rush it, morelikly you are to get hurt or over train. Look in the powerlifting section for ideas and or routines

freakbomb.. i've been working out for 2 months and i'm benching little more then half weight u r doing.. give it some time... i hope i'd bench as much as u r doing in next 6-8 months :big_smile:

Your rate of strength gains are going to decrease with time, especially if you've just gotten in to working out. It doesnt run linearly, that you will just keep going up 5lbs a week, but slows down considerably.
If you want to continue with the strength gains, you're going to have to train to failure on your higher sets or start using lower amount of reps. I'm sure there's posts in the powerlifting section that could really help.

I have found that benching with someone to spot has helped me improve the weight. Confidence that if I fail that I won't end up with the bar across my chest.
Work your triceps by doing dips and enjoy shoulder work & you'll find that your benching will improve to.

my friend is doing a program called cricital bench program from mens health. the way it works is u go for 8 reps. when u hit that weight u add more weight. if u can't do 8 reps u stay at that weight til u can hit 8 reps. if anyone wants i can get more info for ya, i didn't explain it to well. and i know i can't spell
