Hi Everyone:

First of all I would like to apologize to anyone I may have upset with my harsh posts a few years ago. I just read some of the emails and cannot believe how bitter I was. Anyhow. In the past two years I have managed to stay the same weight and haven't listened to anyone's advice because I was stubborn for some unknown reason. I still have the same goal of loosing 10 pounds. A few months ago a friend helped me with mostly the same eating advice and I managed to loose 4 pounds. I was thrilled! Stress has consumed my life since then and I gained it all back. Now I am ready 100% to make this a way of life. I am currently writing down a menu for myself and trying to get in more protein. My hardest part is getting a variety of protein in my diet in the afternoon. I really do not like chicken or tuna. I forced myself to eat it and now I just cannot. So any advice on good afternoon protein sources would be great. I usually have peanut butter and celery and that is getting mundane. I need to "spice it up" 'a bit. I am reading suggestion of low fat cheese but that is carbs and I was instructed not to have carbs after 12pm. Thank you all and I am excited to see a change! I plan on really and truely devoting myself to this!

I forgot to mention one of thing as I was reading all of my pasts posts. I have a huge fear of eating more each day and listening to everyone because I was am afraid to gain more weight. I get very down on myself about it. I currently weigh 125 pounds and my mother honest to God called me chunky. (She is about 110) I have not yet experienced the amazement that many of you have discovered by getting in more protein and loosing weight. I am so afraid but at this point, I have nothing to loose other than weight. I am still afraid but I am willing to take the chance.

What about eggs? Fish? Diary Products? Soy?

What are youdoing for exercise? to successfully reach your goals you should be lifting weights and doing some type of cardio in conjunction with your improved nutrition.

Hi Menace3000:

I actually had to stop exercising for about 2 weeks due to inflammed cartilage in my chest. But before that I do cardio every other day, treadmill, elliptical, kickboxing class. On the alternate days I lift weights. I am very skeptical about going back to lifting because I put on way too much muscle back in November when I was trying to loose weight. I tried listening to a personal trainer but she was training for a competition and pushed me way too hard. And a lot of people noticed that I had put on a great deal of muscle. It wasn't lean muscle either.

Why no carbs past 12pm? Take menaces advice, Start lifting, do some cardio on opposing days and get your diet in line. Getting in the right amount of protein isn't what makes you lose weight, it simply spares lean body mass for the most part in women. A calorie deficit is what loses weight.

create bigger caloric deficit and u wont be gaining weight/muscle...u'll probably shed body fat and expose more lean muscle....(if u can put on a lot of muscle while dieting and being a female....something doesnt add up)

I am really confused now. All of the advice last year stated that I was eating wayyy too little calories. Every single person said I needed to up my intake and especially more protein. Here is what I had today.

Coffee with fat free creamer
2 eggs with salsa
wheat bagel with a little butter on one and about a teaspoon of cream cheese on the other

32 oz of water

one can of chicken breast with a teaspoon of mayo
one low carb tortilla
onions chopped up inside the tortilla

16 oz of water

I am getting ready to eat scallops and lentils.

a calorie deficit is what makes you lose weight..but eating more protein is what protects your muscles, so when you do lose the weight, it is fat, rather than shedding your muscles..

If that's all your diet consists of, you still have the same problem. You need to eat more. That might sound counter-productive to you since you want to lose weight, but until you get back close to maintenance, your not going to lose any more, and if you do, it will be mostly lean mass.:)

I am confused. Half the people who responded said I need a calorie deficit and the other half said I need more calories.

If you become fore physicaly active and eat the right amount of calories for your needs then the calorie deficit comes in to play. If you are lethargic and just eat and lower your calories, then thier will be no deficit. Our bodies need around 1200 calories a day just to survive without any activity!

How do I figure out how many my body need? I do cardio every other day and weight training on the alternate days.

To maintain your bodies's present fat and lean tissue gi with 15 calories /lb. If you need to reduce fatty tissue reduce the calories to 14-13. See how you respond to that after about 10 days. Increase your activity level and you should have a deficit.
