Yes it is possible. I lost 35lbs working out at home and walking on a treadmill.
A treadmill is a piece of gym equipment.
There are all sorts of workout dvds and body weight exercises you can do to assist you with any of your goals (pushups, situps, squats, lunges, planks). Things you have around the house may help too. Stairs, chairs, ladders, etc. In hotel rooms I have done a full series of curls, dips, and extension activities with the one chair they supplied.
