Hi, this is my very first post, hope you all like it. Well I signed up for this about a week ago and I guess it's been going ok, I have some questions though, I hope you guys can help me!

About me - Well even though I'm only 13 I think I'm really ready to start weight lifting. My umm...thing, lol, is called "Progressive Gains" and I'm also doing the 12-week ab program. I'm about 150 lbs and 5'6". I also play ice hockey (goalie)

1. Ok, what happens when you accidentially skip a day of weight lifting, do you just do it the next day?

2. Is there certain times of the day to do weight lifting and cardio? I've been reading and learning alot from the boards, it looks like you should do cardio in the morning on an empty stomach, right? What about time of day for weight lifting?

3. I know it's still summer, but I'm already having practices for hockey, I have them in the morning. Mondays and Wendsdays are an hour and a half long, and Fridays are an hour long. Should I consider hockey practice as my cardio?

4. I'm doing workouts 5 days a week, is that too much?
If not, on days I don't have hockey, how long should I be running? Is simming an ok cardio workout?

I think that's it for now. Sorry that it's a little long. ANY help at all would be great! Thanks!

DrinkMaan, question 1)missing days you planned working out on is just part of life, some things will take priority. So, when I miss a day I just make up for it the next day. 2)Hmm at 5'6" 150 lbs, although I believe cardio is good for you, at your age I would think between gym, playing hockey, and just being active at your age, cardio shouldn't be your main consideration, your weight and height seem proportional for your age, unless you want to stay cut. If you want to gain mass I would take it easy on the cardio to gain some weight, too much cardio will keep you thin, since I'm assuming your metabolism is still pretty high. I've always found that the best time to do cardio or weight training is what works for you. I mean you don't want to try and cram cardio or a workout in, when you will be pressed for time or too tired to be motivated for it. Working out is work, if you do it when the experts say it's the best time to do it and your too pressed for time to get an effective workout in, or if you would be to tired, end result would be becoming burn out or uninterested in working out. To make this long answer short I think the best time to workout is when you are in the mood to workout, when you are awake, motivated, and ready to give it your all. 3)Going back to question two, if your tring to gain mass weight, I would say yes. While I was in school I ran track winter, summer, spring, and played football in the fall. I always had trouble gaining mass. Well now I know all the cardio was keeping it off. 4)As for the workouts I think at your age it's a little too much, your just starting out for one, two your still growing, I would train at the most three days a week and not exceding that until age 16 or so. I also wouldn't go to heavy on the poundages. By all means I'm no expert, but I've been around for a while, and besides exercising in the gym, I have to excerise at work since I'm in the military. I hope my insight is helpful.

Lifting weights 5 days a week is way to much, unless you are a professional body builder. LOL As Stanlee75 says 3 days a week is plenty. I personally work out 3 to 4 days a week depending on my daily priorities. At your age your metabolism is very fast so I say your Ice Hockey you play is plenty of cardio. I have done a lot of research in lifting weights, and most articles say you really should not start lifting weights hard until around the 16 years of age range. I am by no means saying you should not lift weights just take it slow and easy. Good luck in acheiving your goals. The AB Program is a good one but make sure you work your back out to so that your body stays equally stabilized. If you are ever in need of excellent information you need to ask BB1fit or any of the other Staff members.
