I have 14 lbs to lose before Oct.1 or I lose my job.(too heavy for the equipment safe working load.) My weight loss so far has been outstanding, but last week I only lost 2 lbs. At that rate I will be out of a job before I lose the weight. I have cut back no calories and carbs, drink only water(no sodas or coffee or tea), and walk 2 miles a day. A typical day consists of:

Breakfast: 1 hard boiled egg
Lunch: 1 cup lettuce
3 oz. tuna in water
1 1/2 Tbs mayo
3 Tbs ranch dressing
Supper: 3-4 oz meat (chicken, beef or pork)
1 cup vegetables

I have no other snacks or meals and I am full, really, after each meal. Why has my weight loss leveled off? Have I just hit a plateau or am I dong something wrong? I really need to keep my job. I love what I am doing so much that it is not even like work. Should I increase my workouts? Increase my miles? Should I jog vs walk? Any Idea no matter how crazy would be appreciated.

nelson, this may sound crazy but you're not eating enough. Your body is in srarvation mode and your metabolism has basically shut down. You need to gradually up your calories, eat 5 or 6 small meals a day, continue weight training and cardio. Add a little oatmeal to your breakfast. Lose the mayo and try somthing else with the tuna.

Read in the nutrition section the post called "grocery list for the body builder. Try to eat from that list.

Weight training is better than cardio for weight loss. The reason is that if you build muscle, it will burn more caloeies than fat does. Combine that with the 5 or 6 meals a day and you will jumpstart your metabolism. Have you looked at the FT workouts and nutritional guidelines?

Your goal of 14 lbs by October is borderline doable. You can really lose about 2 lbs a week safely. It may be doable because when you eat and exercise properly you may see a larger amount of weight loss in the first two weeks due to fluid loss. Good luck.

nelson,

If you want to lose the weight that fast, you will have to get serious right away and trust what everyone tells you here. Do everything charlie just mentioned. Also, there is a technique to shock the body into burning fat during a workout that I recently learned. However, this is in theory and I have not personally researched the idea.

The theory is if you take a simple carb with protein prior to workout, you will spike your insulin and during your workout crash. Your blood sugar will drop below normal causing your body to use the glycogen stores in the liver and introduce cortisol into the blood stream which will begin breaking down fat if you are not lean. This is not a program if you are at all lean because you will lose muscle. Also you MUST take a protein shake immediately after your workout in order to prevent muscle tissue breakdown. Try at your own risk as I have not researched this idea yet. I believe bb1fit has some information on this and maybe some articles.

Nelson, its so hard to answer how much is enough. If you keep starvin yourself it will cause weight loss. When you save your job be sure to look into what Paul and I said. No lecture man. I wish I had employees like you. Drink plenty of water and maybe add a meal replacement and some vitamins in the meantime. Good luck.

I understand the concerns about a 14 b weight loss in 4 weeks. I can slow down to 1-2lbs a week after I still have a job. My ultimate goal is 200lbs. My short term goal is 289. That's the job keeper. After that I'll take it 10lbs at a time. Right now my excercise is mainly walking, some weights(dumb bells), and massive yard work. I have a lot of grass to cut and I am installing drainage tiles to keep the water away from my house. So lots of push mowing and ditch digging. I also do a juice fast on the weekends. My question is: Is this too much or not enough?

Nelson. I wonder if your company demanding such weight loss is legal?

wardrop, i believe it's a saftey issue for the machines he uses. though in most other jobs i believe there would be something illegal about it. i do believe it is the company's responsibility to review saftey standards on a regular basis (i.e. max wieght for equipment), instead of waiting until wieghtgain is noticable and then giving him a short period of time to lose what he needs to.
