I've been working out and dieting for some time now (several weeks) and haven't seen even the slightest improvement. I mean absolutely NO RESULTS!! I'm eating about five hundred calories a day less than my body needs, I'm running for half an hour six days a week, and lifting weights five days a week, just like all the experts say. Still...nothing. I'm borderline obese, and fear for my health. What can I do?

What is your typical, daily meal? Are you tracking your daily intake using ft or another tracking system? Have you been on a diet before? If so, which one(s) have you tried?

A typical day for me is a bowl of cereal and a piece of fruit for breakfast, a piece of fruit at 10AM and 3PM, a chicken breast sandwich with low-fat mayo and lettuce at lunch, and lean beef stir-fry with brown rice at supper. I also drink about a gallon of water a day. I just joined today, so I haven't been able to track my diet here yet. I've been dieting since I graduated high school, too many different diets to name. I've even been to doctors to check my thyroid or other possible problems. Still nothing.

It looks like your diet is pretty lean. Your cardio is primarily running (1/2 hour, 6 days per week)...correct? Do you have access to a stationary bike or elliptical trainer? If so, increase your time from 1/2 hour to 1 hour...but train only 3-4 times per week. And, as much as possible, train first thing in the morning, before eating breakfast. After your cardio, wait another hour before actually eating.

Continue to lift weights as you have (5 days per week). What is your current training regimen (i.e. do you lift heavy weights, how many reps. and sets, etc.)?

Your goals here are to increase your metabolism (naturally) by continuing to lift weights and start your cardio program early in the morning so that your body uses stored fat as its fuel source. Of course, continue with the clean diet.

Give these a shot for the next few weeks. If you can, join ft's weight loss and tone program and let ft tailor a training schedule for you.

Good luck!
