Chris the run sprint method is called HIIT(high intensity interval training) and is very effective for conditioning.

I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it is gone past me I will turn to see fear's path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain

mmaibohm is right, you are far better off to do 20 minutes of HIIT running then 45-60 minutes of straight running (do a search on it).

And anyways, too much cardio will actually make your body break down muscle and want to store fat.

- Its never about how much you can lift, or how many reps you do. Its just about doing it, and doing it right.
- If your hungry all the time, your not eating enough. And anyways, being hungry sucks.
