Your getting all kinds of opinions on this. Thats great, thats why it's a discussion. If you go to a gym, you might want to incorporate the elipticle machine (cross-trainer), it burns a lot of calories and you can program it for cardio or weightloss.
Good Luck.

I have a question regarding cardio work outs.
is it better to run for a longer period of time at a slower pace, or a faster pace for a shorter period or does it matter that much? If your goal is weight loss. And is cycling better than running? any feed back would be great. Thanks

It doesn't matter, just so you have enough effort. Varying the speed is popular.
Cycling is easier on your knees, but not as much effort and your weight is supported
by the seat. Why not both?

When you are just starting do everything at a low intensity and gradually add more time or speed to your cardio, you do not want to overtraing and cause exhaustion...hope that helps...

I personally like the treadmill, you can put it on an incline and have one of those killer burning workouts! I never did the elipticle machine I was thinking of investing in one for my home gym! my home gym is great! its awesome for those days when you just wanna kick back at home or your just caught under the weather

I was told to alternate cardio workouts for the most benefit. When I asked about it, most people seemed to agree that alternating the treadmill, bicycle, eliptical, stair machine would give the best results for weight loss. I don't know if that's changed, but that's what I was advised to do.

I would agree because your body is not getting used to the same movement. Variety is the spice of life!

Correct...not only alternating the exercise type, but also in the intensity. This will yield the best results.

If you are after weight loss. Lower intensity for longer period is what worked for me. I also weight trained trained. If you have read some of the posts, you have probably read that you can't lose fat and gain muscle at the same time. SO stick to a lower intensity for about 45-60 min and weight train and you are sure to lose weight. Don't forget your nutrition.

this is an interesting question. Personally, I enjoy cardio (being a runner), so the only real question comes down to how I feel. You might be interested in looking in to HIIT, High Intensity Interval Training, which is only takes about 20 minutes to perform. Shorter, more intense workouts are beneficial when trying to preserve muscle mass like during the cutting phase because you are not putting your body into a catabolic state like you would be if you slaved away at a treadmill for over an hour. i'm not saying long cardio sessions are bad, just make sure you are ingesting enough calories to restore your glycogen stores. And another tip, perform cardio early in the morning on an empty stomach so you will be burning more fat.
