Well, another year has wrapped up for my high school's baseball season, and summer baseball is well on it's way. Personally, this season was desappointing.
There are several reasons to my disappointment. At the beginning of the season, I was told that I wasn't going to get much playing time, and that I will probably be fighting for playing time all season.
I know I'm a much better ball player than they thought I was, and I definitely showed it during the preseason and at the level of baseball they had me playing, hitting about .350 with 9 bunt singles (13 infield singles), went on a 5 game hit streak, and i stole about 20 bases (im a quick son of a gun). The level that I commonly played was freshman ball, and as a sophomore it's sort of a slap in the face. I played in JV games, but I usually only pinch hit or ran or went in extremely late in the game after we had a huge lead.
ANYWAY, other things that got in my way were that this was my first year at this particular high school, and the other kids all grew up together, making it tough for me to find ways to get in. They wanted me to learn a different position (there's not that many for a lefty, and i usually play first base). I was very eager to learn, but the coaches never got around to it.
I'm very worried about my spot on varsity next year. I know that I'm probably not going to make it there, as there are only 4 seniors leaving this year, and there are 10 soon-to-be-juniors that are fighting for a spot, and a couple other soon-to-be-sophomores.
This concerns me because I really want to get involved in baseball when I'm older. The majority of my peers tell me that I have a lot of talent, and are suprised that I dont get to play, or even swing to varsity. On two different occasions I asked the coach what I do wrong and he said that I do everything right, but somehow I grew up learning fielding and hitting the "wrong" way-- whatever
This summer I'm playing ball in a level with more of my age group and less people for ages 16-18 (we had 20 players on jv and freshmen and jv and fr both came for jv games) and only 12 players this summer, with a different coach so I hope I get to play more.

IN CONCLUSION! After this summer ends, I don't do a fall sport or a winter sport (unless you'd count bowling.. weird.. i know.. but there are alot more ppl that do it up here than you'd think). What should I do over the offseason to get bigger and stronger for next year's season?
