My sister in law is a dental student and she just offered to pull my wisdom teeth for her oral surgery clinics! Would that be completely insane?
She already filled my cavities. LOL

What is a dry socket? My doctor didn't warn me about this.

An adventure in total pain. You really want to avoid it.

alveolar osteitis, or dry socket…when you lose the blood clot a.k.a hurts like ---- My first career field in the air force was a dental hygienist =0) usually if you follow the home care instructions everything is good

Make sure though that if they give you painkillers that your stomach can tolerate them. When I had mine pulled the Dr. gave me Lortab...evil, evil stuff. The next morning I passed out, stopped breathing and had convulsions. Ended up in the emergency room -- not a pleasant experience. Just make sure you drink lots and lots of fluids and don't over do it.
