Hi,

Can anyone tell me what kind of supplements I should be taking for my off-season? I'm not trying to get cut, I just want to put on as much mass as possible, and so far it seems really slow.. I want to try and put on about 8lbs of lean mass (plus some fat if I have to) in a few months.. is that possible?

Thanks!

Well its possible but your going to really have to stuff your self with as many calorries a day as you can and take protien shakes, protien = 1 gram for every pound u weight per day.

I have an opportunity to compete in a powerlifting comp in Germany in Feb. I have never trained for powerlifting. Although I have a good idea of what I need to do, I was wondering if there was a way to gain the strength without gaining all the Fat.

Just workout as hardly as you can...go to nutrition guide centre and click for your goals and you will know what to eat...it would be also helpful if you take creatin supplements...i heard that it will make you gain upto 5lbs of lean mass in only 2 weeks.

This sounds like a reasonable goal. Lets take a good look at your training and nutrition logs - you are keeping logs, right?

When is the last time you took a break from the routine? When is the last time you switched exercises? How much protien do you eat, What foods are you not eating?

Since I can't get a direct answer, I will give general rules of thumb for each.
It is reccommended to lay off the weights every four to six weeks. Take a week or two off, letting your body vacation and fully repair itself. If you take these vacations regularly, everytime you return, you will be fresh and will notice some results.

Changing your routine often, or regularly - depends on you, of course, will work each muscle differently, keep you from boredom, amd will stimulate more muscle growth.

Protien is a big factor in muscle growth, it is one of the basic building blocks and that is why those who workout use protien shakes. I would suggest Whey over Soy, some research has shown that Whey converts faster and easier into muscle mass.

Other supplements are basic multi-vitamin (which everyone should take) creatine (the much vaulted new supplement, which research is showing to be very safe and effective). These are the basic three supplements which you can add to if you wish.

You should see results if you apply these three things to your fitness plan. Also, I suggest going to your local library and checking out “Bodystat” by Eric Witt, Ph.D. and Carol Wirth. Published by Penguin Books
read it, and see what you think - It will tell you what you need to know to keep down the fat, and will tell you how to fuel your body fully.

Best of Luck, and Cheers

I would try a multi-vitamin & vitamin c..a lot of weight trainers supplement with creatine and glutamine...It's not a must that it does help according to a a lot who tried this types of supplemets...what you'd wana do is check them out...get all your questions answered...especially ask about any side effects...that's really important...I remember wasting my time and money on pils that did me now good. Meal replacements is great idea to put some lean mass....but whatever you do stay away from those growth harmons....

get more than 1 opinion...

What I usually do on the off season or even hours before an event, is to eat about 3 or 4 big macs to get the blood to slow down and the vains to pop way out! What this also does is give you enough calories so you dont have to eat for a couple of days. Good idea hey! LOL I always pick on the people I lift with about eating fast food and why they cant do one more rep, try it sometime to one of your buds-it pisses them off and gets that weight up pretty quick!
