I am 46 years old. I weigh about 185, which is about 20 lbs more than I did when I started weight training about a year ago. I have improved my definition and strength, so with that, I am pleased. I enjoy working out. I train 4 to 5 days a week. My diet is pretty good. Not clean enough for competition, but pretty clean. I supplement my protein with shakes. My question is...I cant seem to make any improvement on my waistline. I dont necessarily want to have a great six-pack, but I hoped after a year, I would have a flatter stomach. It is stronger, but not flatter. At 6ft and 185 lbs, I dont have a big belly, but what do I need to do to lose the bulge. Is it probably my diet? Should I try to lose weight? More cardio? Any ideas will be appreciated. Thanks.

You say you train 4 or 5 days but what kind of ab work are you doing? You can overdo abs like any other muscle but you have to work them.

I dont think I am overdoing the abs. I will usually work my abs 2 to 3 times a week. Different exercises on different days...sometimes upper and lower, sometimes obliques. I have followed freetrainers programs pretty close for over a year. I had the belly (and its not that bad, but I want better) before I started and now the rest of me is in much better shape, but the round belly is still there.

i've found exercises that target the transverse abdominus have really helped me tighten up my belly. things like vaccuums and bridges.. where you breathe out all your air and hold your abs tight for 30- 60s.
also, it could be a result of eating too fast, where you stomach expands alot past its normal size.

i think a proper diet+cardio alone would be enough if u just want to loose the bulge and have a flatter tummy...of course u have to be consistent with it and in time you'll lose ur belly.
