280*11=3080 calories approx you spend while sleeping...if you're active...then it's very possible that you need close to 5000 calories...although I highly doubt it....I mean do you run a lot? weight train?....I am guessing you were asked a question about activity level? metabolism rate?....the caloric level fits well....at those assumptions....however if that's not the case....I would go for something like 3200-3500 calories ....(please forgive me if you're a marathon runner...lol)

lol, im definately not a marathon runner. i am moderately active. i lift weights and do cardio at least 3 times a week. it did seem like a lot. you still think 3200 to 3500 calories a day is a good goal?

thanks for responding. let me ask you this too. i know it said that i should be taking supplements. im a poor college kid. what would be the cheapest and most important supplements for me to take to lose weight and tone up. im fairly strong already, or strong enough for now anyway. im taking hydroxycut, an equate multivitamin, and calcium supplement right now. thanks again.

hydroxycut=waste of money for you...as well as overpriced...
take multivitamin...if you can afford get a whey protein powder(Costco has 90 servings of 20g protein for 20$...called 'Pro-rated')
essentially though, you don't need any supplements...al you need is to eat healthy and in enough proportions
you need to eat 1-1.2 g of protein per lb or about 40% of total calories, 1-2g of complex carbs per lb, 40% of total calories, and remainder should come from healthy fats ..
and eat about....
don't cut calories drastically because you'll mess up your metabolism...

3500 calories is not too much, especially if you're fairly active...plus as you build muscle, your metabolism will increase and you will burn more calories...

why do you think hydroxycut is a waste of money?
that sounds about right with the proportions. thanks
