I really need to lose some weight (my goal is 160) but i also need to gain some muscle. I definitly snack alot but it's usally all things like carrot sticks and grapes. I was just wondering if you guys could answer two questions for me. One is that normal for my age and Two What kind of workout should i do?

Brent,

I don't think you're abnormal for your age. How tall are you? 160 may be too skinny -- especially if you're building muscle. Plus, at 14, you may have another growth spurt and grow a few more inches. I know I got a little taller when I was 15.

Regarding your second question, you can have a weekly workout schedule created FOR FREE on this very site. It's very good. I'm currently using one for weight loss and toning and I've lost over 55 lbs since January 31st! I work out with weights 4 times a week and try to do at least 3 cardio sessions a week -- sometimes up to 6, but always at least 3!

Another option is to pick up the book "The Abs Diet." It has great advice and exercise programs.

And remember this -- as you gain muscle, don't pay so much attention to what the scale says. It's true -- muscle weighs more than fat. The scale may not move that much, but you'll notice your clothes are fitting looser. That's because you're adding lean muscle mass! Muscle is the best fat burner there is! Do cardio, but make weight training your primary focus.

And don't forget to eat right -- and often! Eat 5-6 times a day! Of course, I mean 3 meals and 3 snacks. This is VERY IMPORTANT!

Bottom line: If you eat right and get on a decent workout program that includes 3 weight sessions a week and 2 or 3 cardio workouts, you'll do great! Make sure you have a day of rest.

I'm sorry my post was so long, but when you described yourself, I saw myself back in high school and wished I had gotten into shape earlier. I'm sure I would've had much more success with the girls.

Good luck!
