I just want an opinion on this....

Normally when I am ill (flu, cold, etc.) I still do my workout if it is in my schedule for the day, no matter how sick or great I feel. Is it counterproductive? How does a body that is dealing with an illness react to a workout on those days? I actually feel better by the time I am done working out.... But if I am ill, is it best to just but my workout on hold?

your body is going to be diverting its attention to treating your active muscles when you are working out, and will cut down on trying to get rid of the cold. therefore, it might take longer for you to ditch it..

i usually stick to the rule that if a cold is neck up, you can go ahead and train, providing you feel like it. if it is neck down, take a day or two off and rest.. let your body focus on getting rid of the illness

I agree with bropie on the neck rule.

Exercising while sick is really a personal decision but you should do the 'neck check'.
If your symptoms are above your neck, then you can exercise at a decreased intensity.
If your symptoms are below the neck, you should skip workouts until they subside.

There is no medical evidence that says exercise helps speed up recovery time but a lot of the time it does make you feel more energized than laying around.
