I have been working out 5 times a week, since the middle of October and have restricted myself to 1300-1500 calories a day and am not really losing weight. At the gym I usually do 35-45 minutes of cardio, and some light weights to start toning. I am 32, 5'11, and weight 180....I've only lost 5-lbs since starting. Does this seem right? I am starting to get discouraged....I know weight is just a number, but it seems like I should be seeing more results. Thanks for your input.

Actually your system is being starved and it is hanging on to what it has. You are burning up alot of energy but not getting good nutrition. You need at least 2150 calories per day of good clean foods, and should be eating min 3 meals and 2 snacks. You will then shed your fat. Don't be scared to lift what you are able to, and 30 min of cardio is plenty.

Thanks for the information...I haven't seriously exercised in a few years and I am working so hard for results. Is there a vitamen or supplement that you would recommend that would help to boast my metabolism?
BTW - this is a great site, I will be sure to pass it along!

First get your metabolism working at the proper level then think about supplementing.
Start eating real food, as it is much better.
As for the vitamin, a good quality multi with iron,as women tend to lose iron every month, along with vit c (seperately).

Look into raising your daily caloric intake as well as calorie zig-zagging.
There are two sure-fire ways to boost your metabolism - eat more and exercise more. I've had great success on getting past cutting plateaus by increasing my caloric intake as much as 1/3, and increasing my caloric expenditure (exercise) to match.
