Not being able to spot reduce means that there are no exercises which are "best for losing fat" in thigh/legs/gut.

sorry, that unintentionally sounded curt.

When you diet or exercise your body uses fat stores from all over the body as a source of energy.

Doing resistance training to increase muscle in a certain area will make little difference to how the area looks if it is still covered in a layer of fat (which is why it doesn't matter how many sit ups you do, you will not get a six pack if you are overweight)

Increasing muscle mass in general will help by increasing your metabolic rate and lowering your body fat if combined with diet.

Therefore the best exercises for reducing fat in any area are probably those which lead to the biggest increase in muscle mass - squats, deadlifts, benchpresses, that sort of thing, but will take months rather than weeks to see a big change.

Most people say lunges are great for the legs, thigh and butt. I can't do them so well do to knee stuff but elitical machines and bikes and swimming all that is great.
