Hi, I've done a search and read loads of threads about various muscle cramps, which was useful. The general consenus seems to be that it's a potassium deficiency??
Well I eat bananas, but what other food has lots of potassium.
Also, why I'm posting really, is because my cramps are in one of my toes. No-one else has mentioned toe cramps, just mainly, calf ones. Does anyone else get toe cramps? It's really affecting my workout, as my foot starts to feel really stiff, as if my toe is going to cramp, and I have to stop.

it's the toe next to the big toe, on my left foot. It goes downward and sticks like that. It's very painful!!
It happens after a while on the treadmill and the cross trainer aggrevates it a lot too. It's more that the exercise brings on the feeling that it's going to cramp though, not that it actually does.
It sometimes happens at random times too, mainly in bed, on the point of going to sleep. That hardly ever happens any more though

Intrinsic muscles of the feet are muscles too, and can get cramps just like any other muscle. What you have described used to happen to me when I was much younger. Now it never happens. I don't know if it is because now I workout. I guess it should disapper for you too once you are in a somewhat better shape. Stretching is good.
By the way, it is supposed to be sodium deficiency, not potassium.

I'm missing a joke there i think:)
well I never add salt to anything, kinda thought it was unhealthy. But there's always plenty of sodium/salt already added in foods anyway.

I am a doctor and I'm totally fed up trying to convince everyone that eating normal amount of salt is necessary for normal people, especially if you sweat your stuff at the gym and especially if you do it in a place with hot and humid climate. Low salt is for hypertensives.

but what is a normal amount of salt??
isn't the salt already added to foods you buy, over the recommended amount anyway.
I don't like the taste of salt anyway!!
