perrrin, welcome to FT. If you are just starting out you probably don't need much in the way of supplements. One of the folks I respect alot said in a post that supplements will add about 5% after you have exausted the other avenues. Lift heavy , eat clean and get enough rest is the first 95%.

Some folks have trouble getting the necessary protein through whole food and a supplement there can't hurt if thats the case. Also many use a whey protein supplement post work out because it is absorbed rapidly.

Educate yourself on anything else you take. There are many beneficial supplements out there but there are also a bunch of useless ones that are designed to separate you from your money. In the muscle building area, I use ZMA and creatine as well as dessicated liver. There is much written here about supplements and its worth researching and reading. Use the fitbuddy search at the bottom of the page. Hope this helps.

most supplements are rubbish.. read up and surf for info but don't believe the ads- especially not the American ones as it seems allowed to right complete fiction as to what a product can do. The top workable products are those that will support your nutritional and exercise needs but wont perform miracles... top ones are sort of in order(ish)
a good multi vitamin
protein(soya for veggies and then whey of course- then casseine at night)
creatine (bumps up water content in muscles helping strength gains a bit, maybe alot)
zma (it's a bit over hyped but yeh it works but the ads ? zinc and mag on their own is ok)
hmb (again over hyped but yeh it serves)
calcium and any aminos really for muscles and fatty issues
vit c wards off colds as does garlic and is antioxidant..

Anything I havent mentioned may still be good. None of it is at all essential if your diet is well planned and you are not training like a pro. Forget fat burners as the truth is eat less and the burners you wont see a difference less your body fat is low already...
sorry i talk too much but it's a start eh- (now search fitbuddy for any of this and our opinions. good luck
