I know it's normal to change a bit over the day, but... Lately (this week) I've weighed 176 pounds at 6am and 182 pounds at 7pm. I do drink about a couple of gallons of water a day and food obviously. I know I should leave it alone and weigh myself once Sunday at 5pm as is my usual but...
1) Can this difference be in the weight of what I eat and drink per day?
2) Where does the weight go overnight?

A couple of GALLONS??? Whoa, that is a lot. I drink around 2 liters, which is half a gallon. I would say maybe the weight fluctuation is from all the water, but I'll leave this for someone else who knows more about it to answer.

The water is definitely added weight throughout the day and thats why you see the change in weighting twice per day. But the water is also one of the processes to get rid of the lbs. Id ask if you are eating sodium maybe thats holding in more water than you need. I can see five lbs but not ten lbs. But try weighing at the same time every day if youre gonna do that and see what happens. But youre right about Sunday is a good day in the morning before any food to see how its going.

Were the conditions the same eg, Same scales? Same clothing?
And are they decent scales? – if cheap one they may not be very accurate.
Even if yes you will lose weight whilst you sleep, through moisture in your breath, sweat and that morning pee/dump – then replace it during the day. I would guess that it’s probably just a combination of facts that happened to add up to give a unusually large difference.

A gallon of water is about 6 lbs. Thats probably the culprit. My weight has varied even more in the coarse of a day. It probably is best to weigh the same time each day for accuracy.
-------------- A problem ceases to be such when you can laugh about it.
