I am a 49 yr. old female new to this site and thought I would ask for your help. On December 12,2003 I had my second major back surgery. I was fused from L4- to S1
(from about middle of back to butt) and have this wonderful spinal implant in my back. Now here is the$50,000.00 question I really need to tone up stomach muscles and the rest of my body, as I have gained 50 lbs. in the past 6 months because of the injury and not being able to do anything but feed my depression with food, and now I am looking to REALLY improve myself, and self esteem , by work on losing the weight gain, and starting to exercise.
I have been in general good health, YES I SMOKE, and also need to work on that but I really need help with what I can do to help myself get back to life.

Do you participate in physical therapy? What has your physician recommended? I would follow any recommendations that they may have. If you have been released to pursue physical activity then I would begin by walking. That was the most beneficial thing that I did after my back surgeries. Start slow and try to increase your distance and/or time each session. Be careful to not overdo it in the beginning. You should also try working your abs because strengthening this area will help protect your back. Unfortunately, someone else will need to give you guidance on how best to work this area. I don't know how it will affect your back. I wish you the best and hope this helps.
