I am a 21 year old college student and I am in good physical condition, except that I have a lot of fat that I want to lose. I am 5'6 and weight 142 lbs. Anyway, I lift weights 3-4 days a week and do cardio 45 minutes to 2 hours 6 days a week. Cardio is either kickboxing, elliptical, stairmaster, or walking...usually a combination of some sort. I am now working on the nutrition part, which I know is most important! Anyway, my question is, am I doing enough/too much to lose the excess fat that I have? I would like to get down to 125 (no time limit). Any insight would be great! Thank you!

You are not doing too much but be careful with the cardio. You can defeat the purpose by losing lean mass to fuel your cardio.
Just remember to eat well and give yourself good sleep and a rest day.
Good Luck.

Please don't do over 45 minutes of cardio. It will defeat the purpose of weight training.

Cardio is best done on an empty stomach first thing in the morning. It's great that your doing different exercises definately keep that up.

I remind myself every time I'm tempted to eat something that I know isn't going to help me reach my goal that just because I'm exercising doesn't mean I can eat whatever I want.

Thank you guys so much for your input. That hsa been my problme taurie, I used to think that I could eat a cookie or some cake because I went to the gym, but now I keep a food journal and try to limit processed carbs, which means no cookies!! I am doing better! Thanks again!

WSU, does that happen to be Wayne State University in MI? Just curious cause my sis goes there ;)

Anyway, I found it very tough for the first couple weeks to keep myself from cheating. But, now im into week 6 and im in such a routine that I really do not even think about it. So try to take it one day at a time for awhile, and before you know it you wont even be thinking about cheating.

I also take day out of the week to eat something that is considered "junk" or otherwise has too many calories in it like pizza ;). ITs good to have a cheat day. The secret is to still have a caloric deficit on your cheat day or come out even.

I usually work out on my cheat day so i can burn more calories and consequently eat more :).
