I know I know, dinner shouldn't be a big meal and should be full of vegetables and all that good stuff. But my problem is, I don't get home until late afternoon and that's when I have to cook, meaning that we usually eat cooked food at night(around 6:30-7). I usually make some meat, with potatos/rice, and of course, veggies. So my question is, is it bad to eat carbs and meat at this time? I kind of have no choice, but I wouldn't think it's so bad since we eat in the early evening and don't eat anything until around 8-9 the next morning. Besides, if I only have a yoghurt and an apple or something like that for supper, I'd be so hungry by bedtime that I couldn't sleep. What do you have for dinner and what time? Plus, any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

I eat w/ my family so we always cook "dinner"; it usually is my biggest meal of the day but I try not to make it gigantic. Last night I had a small lean steak, some broccolli, half a baked potato. Or I'll skip the potato or whatever carb we're having and just have chicken and a good sized salad. I want to get along w/ my family (LOL), usually I can modify a 'normal' family dinner to suit my needs. I wouldn't worry about eating carbs w/ meat, just try to stick w/ complex carbs when you can. - brown rice is preferable to white if you can get your family to accept it. LOL Also keep your dinner small but have another small high protein meal later on - your going close to 12 hours w/ no food if you don't eat again 'til breakfast the next morning.

I agree with jessica, especially if you have already worked out by the time you get home. A decent meal is what you should have. Have your yogurt as a snack before bed.

Can you go with a brown carb for dinner? Brown rice, a whole or multigrain pasta or roll? I've noticed a big change in my body composition since I switched to these types of carbs.

Yes,I LOVE brown rice and whole grain breads and pasta too. For me, they are much tastier than white carbs. Luckily my family likes brown rice and the like also, so I usually cook such foods. Also, I really like oven-bakes fries, and they are crispy like the regular fries minus the fat. I just wasn't sure if eating carbs, no matter what kind, is good or not at night. But thanks for the answers, I feel better now about eating them at supper, but of course gotta keep the portion small. Thanks!
