Torture on Pause

Well for the past 6 days, I've been sick.  It was a brutal little virus (I suspect) that my bouncing baby boy brought home from a get together at the local Library.   He's obviously far tougher than his daddy, because I had to stay home from work 3 days in a row, and today is the first day I've actually been able to think straight.

I don't know about the rest of you, but when the inside of my head feels as though it's been stuffed with a cotton pillow, I simply couldn't bring myself to exercise.

That's a bit depressing, because I was looking forward to moving to actual cardio programs on the exercise equipment rather than sticking to the heart rate control programs...makes me feel like a doddering old fool.  Ah well, I'll continue to recover tomorrow, and Monday I'll skip the weight training and sub in a light cardio program...I'm thinking 20 minutes ought to be enough to wake this bod up and prod it back into action.

The other thing that slipped was diet.  Today was my wife's Birthday.  We live in the desert, and the only place around here to get seafood (her very favorite) is Red Lobster.  Between that and my lack of motivation to cook, it was food prepared by someone else most of the time.  I still tried to avoid from the lard rolled in fat and twice deep fried items, but I can feel that food in my system.  Maybe it's all mental and guilt, but I swear it's there.

The bright side of all of this is that between my increased metabolism, and that because I was so sick I just plain didn't eat much, I haven't gained much...I think I'm still around 5-6 lbs under my beginning weight after 6 weeks.  The first 3 weeks didn't show much progress but taken overall, I'm really pleased.

The best part of it all?  When I got dressed up for dinner to take my wife out, I could notice a small difference...I had to have my wife take in the shirt a little bit in the back.  There wasn't quite as much bulk to fill it up like there used to be.

Another 10 lbs, and I'm going to shave my beard (it's short, think George Clooney, not ZZ Top) and get my hair cut (also pretty short usually).  I think once I've lost 15 lbs,  Shaving my beard and cutting my hair will really put an underscore on my new look!
