Reflection

The workout went much better today.  Certainly nothing near what I racked out on Monday, but it was certainly a respectable showing.  I find myself in a reflective mood.  I'm nearing the 3 month mark on my program, and while I've plateaued for the past week or two on my weight loss, my fitness levels have skyrocketed.  My muscle mass has noticeably increased, and for me to even make it to three months is a serious accomplishment.

Not only have I almost made it to three months, I'm looking ahead to what I'll do next to increase my muscle gains and breach the plateau I'm on.  That's truly amazing!  Today, I pulled 30 minutes on an elliptical.  That's something I never would have thought I could do.  Certainly, 3 months ago I would have laughed in your face if you told me to get on an elliptcal for more than 5 minutes.  My heart rate is starting to normalize when I'm actively exercising, which is something I haven't experienced since I was a teenager.  Another thing I haven't done since I was a teenager is examine my abs.  OK, so honestly you can barely see them, but damned if they aren't there, lurking where they should be.  My old fatman saggy chest is disappearing.  My chest actually looks like a healthy chest instead of an old man that should be wearing a bra.

I'm thinner, I'm stronger, I have more energy, and I am finally starting to feel good about myself.  I know me.  In the past, I took whatever chance and used whatever excuse I could to avoid exercise.  I have only cheated on my diet twice in two months.  That floors me!  I'm slowly starting to accept this new routine as a permanent change, and I find myself looking forward to the time when I can go running with my friends or get some new closer fitting clothes.  It's not that I want to show off, but just because it's something I couldn't physically do before...an experience to try!

I'm off to a solid start, and I'd like to thank the friends I've made here, the folks that run this site and make it all possible, and all of the people out there that have published or posted information on nutrition and fitness.  It has allowed me to turn my life around.

Congratulations Herald. Every year we long term members watch a new wave of members who make new year resolutions. By mid February, 90% of them are gone. You've beaten the odds... Lift heavy, eat clean, rest. Then do it again the next day. Simple eh?
