My football summer weight lifting program started Mon.
For the 1st 2 weeks we do 5 set of 10 for bench and squat and 3 sets of 10 for dead lift and incline.

Bench: 185 pounds (5x10)
Squat: 275 pounds (5x10)
Dead: 255 pounds (3x10)
Incline: 115 pounds (3x10)

Is this a pretty good workout??

I wish everyone would get a partial amnesia and never use 'tone' ever again. (thanks Menance)

Please don't post the same question in numerous forums.

That routine sucks. How many days do you want to lift weights? what are your goals?

I dunno about sucks. I've seen worse (most of them from football coaches).

Anyone know why the bench is such an important exercise in this country? 2 bench exercises, no pressing, and no rowing or chinning.

if you can use the same weight for 5 sets of 10 reps, then you're obviously not pushing yourself hard enough. on each set. Instead, make every set count and push to failure and don't worry if you have to drop weight or reps on the next set...

I dont like the structure of the workout, exercise selection, rep selection,....

just go with a common 5x5 variation....most beginners see good gains from it...

In all honesty if you're doing more than singles for deadlifts then you're lifting for too high of reps....definitely would not go above 5....

make sure to even out your horizontal pressing and your overhead pressing....some push presses, jerks, military presses, bent presses,etc...for every bench/dips movement you do....

Good call menace. Any football program should involve olympic lifts: cleans, jerks, snatches... power is the most important thing.

Remeber guys...you can not take untrained KIDS and throw them into a OLY-style training. What he posted sounds like an over all conditioning for folks that are new to training. Now if that IS THE ONLY workout they have planned then YES it sucks and the strength coach needs to be beat.

if he's benching 185x10 and squatting 275x10, then I would have a hard time believing he's untrained

Maybe he's doing those quarter squats we were talking about in the other thread Mutt posted.
