I have heard that a low resting heart rate is something that has been attributed with endurance atheletes. I was wondering if anyone knows a good scholarly source where I can learn more about this?

Go ahead and Google "low resting heart rate" and you'll find a lot of good sources. I saw a number of small articles from Runner's World.

It's called bradycardia or bradyarrhythmia. Do a search for both and you find what you're looking for. The National Institute of Health website has always been helpful to me.
