Unlike flab on arms or other parts of the body, fat around the waist is especially risky “It’s all about location, location, location."

“Weight around arms or thighs might cost you a couple of dates, but it’s not medically important. Waist size and carrying extra weight under the belly button puts you at a higher risk for heart disease and cancer.

Fat under the belly button feeds right into the liver, kidneys and other vital organs, according to Roizen. “It’s metabolically active and different from fat elsewhere on the body.”

As we get older, our metabolism begins to crawl. It decreases 2-3% every 10 years as a result of decreased muscle mass, which makes it increasingly difficult to maintain a healthy weight. Suddenly, it’s necessary to go the extra mile if you want to effectively fight that belly fat.

Pretty much the only fat I got left too is that area even my side are real nice now, I no longer have love handles and haven't for months now but this damn belly butt area sucks and is difficultly slow.

Rather slow then not at all I say, plus there will always be a tad there.

My kids and people at the gym alway tell me I look good and in shape saying the can see my abs and that I have good diffinition, I alway reply back, Nah I'm still fat and then I pintch around the belly button and say as long as that's still there I'm fat!

Why can't we see ourselves like others do, I might be bigger or taller then someone but I see then the bigger or taller.

I have looked at guys in the locker room and said, man you look in great shape and have had most say not as good as you and I laugh and grab my belly button fat and say, Nah I'm still FAT!

DAMN THAT BELLY BUTTON FAT!

So here's a question. What about belly fat that is above your belly button? Even at my lowest weight I carried fat above my belly button, and not below. Same risk factors?

Pretty much...visceral fat is dangerous. Some of this is subcutaneous fat, which we all have more of. But at least 10% if not more of the fat you are referring to is probably visceral. This is fat normally we can't really feel or touch..it lies a bit deeper under the subcataneous. The problem being it surrounds the organs.

This has always been my problem area as well. It's the first to expand if I up my diet even the slightest bit...but the last to shrink it seems. My arms and legs are well developed, but my midsection has always been a struggle. I have developed a nice V shape across my back and along my sides that wasn't there even when I got as low as 135 just over a year ago (148 now). So maybe it's improving slowly and I just don't notice it.

ahh belly fat....yuck...anyway, just curious...how much is to much (measurements) around the midsection that you must start to worry about these negative effects?

I'm not too sure of the measurements, but bodyfat % over 20 for men, and over 30 for women, is a "clinical" term for being obese. Meaning, you probably need to lose some fat.

Yep, all about the diet. The body cannot shed any 'weight' of any kind without a caloric deficit. 'stubborn' fat is tough, many folks actually have to give up muscle if they want to get as lean as their 'idols'. Normally, this is not necessary...many of us get a 'skewed' vision of lean from looking at movie stars, bodybuilders, etc.

you will definitely see some changes....how quickly or obvious it will be depends on the indivual's body response...give it some time and it will all come together :)

Try to add my secret ingredient, a plate of patience to your diet. :)

Hurry up and try to force things and bad things normally happen.
