When to start running

Well in Jan 7th of this year I was 289. Now as of 17 March I am down to 260. I wanted to start running and have done that in a in-door gym where one lap is roughly 100 meters. I do two laps and then walk two laps for about 20 laps after lifting weights. My problem is that it is sore on the knees and joints. Should I continue on or hold off on running/jogging till I get down some in weight??

Why not switch to some other form of cardio besides jogging? Eliptical machine, bicycle are just two non-impact ones that come to mind. There are many others.
