Recording Weight Lifted in Workout

Quick question:
When recording the weight used in exercises involving dumbells, do you record the weight of each dumbell, i.e., I used 20's for 8 reps so I would write 20, or do you add the weight together, which would then be 40?

Well I use the individual weight on any upper arm exercises.... but for squats I use the total. It's just for your own tracking so doesn't really matter.

Wrong section, but write down whatever is easiest for you to remember the weight you used, to track progress.
