Omega 3 fats are polyunsaturated fatty acids that cannot be produced by the body and must be obtained from external sources. Research has shown that omega 3 fatty acids may help to prevent numerous diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, arthritis, certain types of cancer and many others.
There are 3 types of important omega 3 fatty acids:

Alpha linolenic acid (ALA)
Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA)
Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA)

EPA and DHA are the most beneficial ones. ALA is converted into EPA and DHA in the body. Older people and people suffering from diabetes may lack the ability to convert ALA into EPA and DHA. In these cases it's more advisable to obtain omega 3's from sources that are rich in EPA and DHA.
One of the richest sources of EPA and DHA is cold water fish, such as salmon, herring and mackerel.
ALA can be obtained from flaxseed oil, walnuts and various plant sources.

Here are more sources of omega 3 fatty acids:

Shrimps
Walnuts, brazil nuts, hazelnuts and pecans
Green leafy vegetables, such as spinach and broccoli
Eggs
Houmous
Sesame seeds and Tahini ( paste made out of sesame seeds)
Soybeans - soybean oil
Tofu

Be sure to get the right ratio of omega 3's and 6's, this is coming out as being very important because they can block each other's absorption, as can saturated fat.

I like a product called Udo's 3-6-9 oil that has the correct ratio

i take a fish oil supplement with any carbohydrate rich meal

I take flaxseed oil and have done for the last year. Now I just used a site calorieking.com to aid me in eating within my macro ratio, and much to my suprise 1tbsp (0.5 oz) equals to 122 calories and 13.6g from fat alone: surely this cant be right? That is almost half my calorie allowance for fat!

I take 1 teaspoon in the morn and one in the evening with meals so I assume that amasses to around 1tbsp (0.5oz). I knew that flaxeed was obviously rich but those numbers just seem wrong to me, any insight?

for some reason everytime I start supplementing omega 3,6,9 fatty acids, It makes me go to the bathroom, is that normal????
