I had been doing really well yesterday I walk 2.5 miles on tread, ate a subway tuna hero that my husband bought home, and a small portion of linquin & clam sauce he made. I had no bread. My husband took out his ben & jerry ice cream. I wanted some but instead I grabbed an orange. I stayed out of the room where he was eating the icecream. Then he called and asked me to put the icecream away. While doing so I took a 1/2 of teaspoon taste and then put it away. Sat down to watch t.v. and just kept thinking about the ice cream there was about a 1/4 of it left. He yelled at me for my daughter leaving the lights on and then I ate the rest of the ice cream. I know and said to myself you should walk on the treadmill but didn't. Why?

Hi
Because you are human perhaps? I dont think there is such a thing as "willpower",if there were,we would all be determined by our failures or success's,and not the fact that we are human and subject to temptation now and again.

So you ate some ice cream..ok you learned that in the end that isnt what you really wanted,so let it go,chalk it up to an "oh well" moment and move on.

Temptation will always be there...whether its food, cigs or anything else....It doesnt take "willpower" to avoid or pass on these things,it takes determination, patience and a willingness to admit that sometimes we falter.

The next time he yells at you for something so mundane as leaving the lights on,have you ever thought to say to him "if it bothers you so much, why dont you turn them off"?

That way you have confronted the issue that makes you want to eat,and hopefully put it to rest...

BE strong!

Well put Mystic, there is no willpower, if you avoid the ice cream the temptation will not be so strong, that goes for anything that you are trying to give up, so next time tell him to put it away or it will melt.

Stick too your walkiing its great exercise, introduce incline or slight speed increases for short periods (30 seconds.

Why did you put the ice cream away...he took it out...he ate it...he should have put it away...How does he feel about you trying to get healthier? Does he encourage your actions, or try to sabbatoge them?

I agree and disagree about the willpower, so I'm going to go in a different direction, especially since something similar happened to me the other night. I was putting a half gallon of ice cream away for someone who will remain nameless since no one here knows them, and I did go ahead and have a tsp. I only did it because I knew the rest of my day was solid as far as my diet went. I could have just as easily not eatin it but knew it wouldn't hurt, wasn't a case of willpower at all. If you get your diet squared way and are eating consistantly every 3 hours or so, that alone will reduce much of the urge to eat more than a tsp. Reinforces willpower with fullness and even pride. Allows you to be in control. I had no urge to eat a bowl. Just treated myself with a little taste. I'd be willing to bet when you ate it you were already hungry and maybe even more than 3 hours since your last meal. Not to mention being you being hypothyroid. I am too as I mentioned to you before, and that makes it tougher as well. Regardless, whatever you do, don't beat yourself up over it. It's not the end of the world. Live and learn. Look ahead, not behind.

To Lone girl if my husband ask me to do something I just do it, I hate fighting or conflict If I didn't he would get upset and stay upset for a while over something so silly, so I just put it away no big deal. So in situations like that I have to be strong::dumbbell:
