Hello. This is a great site. I've been on here for a while, but haven't been too active lately. With the advent of the new year, I've decided to commit myself to getting in shape and working to attain the body that I want.

I'm 23 years old, 5'7 and 210 lbs. Pretty hefty. My goal weight is 150 lbs. I know what's not gonna come in 2 months, but I would like an opinion on a reasonable expectation of how long it would take to reach that goal weight.

I'm giving myself 7 months to lose 60 lbs. Do I need to challenge myself a bit more by lessening the time or should give myself longer than 7 months to lose that 60 lbs?

A healthy weight loss is 1-2 lbs per week. So, approximately 30-35 weeks which comes out to 7-8 months. I think you are pretty close with your estimation. Good luck!!! :)

Armani84, it is doable, but you're gonna have to really work at it. Being active in some way every day will play a big role in this. But the #1 thing will be your diet.
At 210 lbs, you probably need to be around 1800 calories a day to lose weight(this INCLUDES being active with cardio or strength training).
You need to cut the fat in your diet to a minimum, and eat plenty of lean meats and veggies. Understanding serving sizes is also a must for proper calorie counting.

I'm a big strong guy, but it's taken me almost a year to go from 278(last January) to 214(right now) and I still have a ways to go. So don't give up! This is a fight you CAN win!

One more suggestion that i'd make for anyone trying to lose weight is to set small goals. It's great to have a final goal, but thinking about losing 170 lbs stresses ME out and I'm not doing it! lol. When I was working hard to lose weight, I would give myself small goals such as losing 8 lbs by Valentine's day, or 20 lbs by Memorial Day weekend. Breaking the large goal into smaller increments is a lot less intimidating and easier to keep motivitation.
Good luck everyone, and RIGHT ON Return! You've done awesome!

one thing that is amazing if you can stick with it, is the Special K Challenge! It's hard the first two weeks, but if you can keep it going for a couple of months it works wonders!!:)
