Relax that back!

Let's face it - after a long day at work or at home with the kids, few things sound better than a back massage. But since most of us don't have that luxury on a daily basis here are two exercises to help strengthen muscles in the back and ease tension.

Exercise 1 (to ease tension and relax the spine)
Sit on a bed with your back straight and legs apart. Rest hands on the bed in front of you, between your legs. Bend one knee at a time inwards, curling your body forward. Relax your head and arms between your legs.

Exercise 2 (to help firm lower back muscles)
Lie on your belly on the floor with your hands beneath you, palms down, fingertips pointing towards each other. Raise your body off the ground by straightening your arms and arching your back and spine. Twist around and look at your feet over your shoulder. Repeat on the other side and continue to repeat 5 times each side. Lower your body and relax while you count to 10.
