I have been dieting for about 4 weeks now. I have been consuming between 1300-1600 calories per day. I was not exercising til the past 5 days. The first 2 weeks of dieting I didnt weigh myself period ! So I am not sure how much or if any weight I lost. Last week though I lost 4 and 1/2 pounds doing nothing different than from the first 2 weeks. Well for the last 5 days after this past weigh-in I have walked a total of 15 miles (@ 3mph). I have followed the same calorie intake and managed to GAIN 1 pound. How in the #$@! is this even possible? Someone please help me understand whats going on cause I am devastated. Thanks for reading!

Start checking your measurements as well. Sometimes weighing yourself isn't the best way to gauge progress. You may have very well went up a pound but actually lost inches.

Yeah, that sounds a little low. You would do better increasing that number by about 200-300 a week until you get to around 1800-2000. Your metabolism will speed up when your eating somewhere close to our maintenance calories. At 1200-1300 it's at a crawl. Go to the specific diet and nutrition forum and do a little reading there. Learning good eating habits and eating the right kind of foods at the right time of the day will make a big differance.

Hi brittany and welcome to FT. I know it is extremely difficult, but try not to focus on your lbs lost every week. It is very normal, especially for women, to have our weight fluctuate a lot. My weight can change as much as 3lbs overnight!! Just keep plugging away at what you're doing diet and exercise wise and as Mojo suggested, take measurements every few weeks. Do not let the scale control your emotions!! The weight should come off slow and steady, 1-2lbs a week is ideal.

Even if you are on the right track, you will get run over if you just sit there.
