I am trying to lose belly fat. I do 30 minutes of cardio 5 days a week, abs 3 days a week and arms and legs once a week each. I am on the South Beach diet.
I have been on this diet for almost 2 weeks and have lost 3 pounds, I am at a good weight I think. I am 5'4" and weigh 120. I hate having this belly. I know I can't spot reduce so I have been trying to lose overall body fat but it will not go away. Does anyone have any suggestions? What can I do to get it to go away? I would love to have a flat tummy! I was trying to do by valentines day, but the end of April is another good time.

Take your time and it will slowly happen for you. Don't expect too much too fast...

I'm 5'5" & weigh 133 & have the same problem - so besides the tummy tuck (which I'm not going to have) just keep up what you are doing & you will get there - good luck

Howdy...

I don't know why, but running seems to burn fat the faster than either swimming or the exercise bike for me. If you have trouble with your joints or are prone to running injuries, try and eliptical trainer...no impact, same motion.

Anyway, I bought some very cushioned running shoes since I supinate a lot and I'm fortunate enough to have access to an indoor rubber track, so that's what I'm doing now.

Take care...

Hi, welcome to ft!

You need to figure out what your motivation is to lose weight, create a plan of action - what will you do differently this time so thatyou will stick with your program, what will you cut out, what will you add, etc.

Pick a routine from freetrainers and get started.
There is a lot of great info in the FAQs section, and lots of good food info in the nutrition forum!
Good luck andf let us know when you have more specific questions - ain't nothin' to it but to do it.

I got a book the other day. It's the Prevention 2005 Women's Health Book by all the top doctors or something like that.

It said you need to hold your stomach muscles in all the time. If you're working out real hard for an hour a day or 10 minutes a day or anything else and letting it just plop there the other 23 hours of the day it doesn't do as much good as it would if you hold it in AND exercise.

It makes you look 5 pounds slimmer already because you'll stand up straight, it'll help your back too....try sucking your stomach in slightly (not a massive no breathing type thing hehehe) as often as you can think of doing it.

I said I read it, didn't say I'm totally practicing it yet hehehe but trying... :)

I have found Pilates to really help in the tummy area. I've always been a runner but it was after a year of Pilates classes that I really noticed my stomach finally beginning to flatten. I had already lost 25lbs, but my tummy just wouldn't go away, now it is flattening out, slowly but surely. I'm also weight training, spinning classes and still run, but I know it's the Pilates.

Hi I'm a mom of a 4 year old and I'm currently 148lbs.i had been trying for 4 years to loose weight, since i'm presently working in a call center right now i had gained like 20-30 lbs...I got enrolled on all the gyms i could think of, and right now i go to this gym where they have all sorts of group exercises(pilates, yoga, body combat, body jam etc.) but, unforunately I could not join on those programs since I sleep in the morning and work at night( since I work on a call center)...I would really appreciate if somebody would be able to give me an advice on the right exercise( so I could at least loose 20-30 lbs.) and food to eat...i would really appreciate that! thanks in advance and more power!:)

pilates? I havent tried that and im having such issues with my midsection. I have very toned arms and legs, but my flabby middle wont budge much. How often do you do pilates? I would love to try that, this obsession ihave with my midsection is actually causing depression, its truly bothering me to the point where its very very very unhealthy. THANKS!

cladekk1, this original post is about a year old, but I'm still doing pilates and highly recommend it! You need to find a good instructor because there are a lot of different types of classes out there. Try attending one for free and see if it pushes you hard enough. Mine is mostly a mat type class (no stability balls etc) and the focus is primarily on the core with some leg work thrown in. For a time I was going 2X/week and this was working the best, but I now only have time for 1X/week. Check it out and see how it works for you. My latest thing is Hot Yoga...I'm hooked!

On a side note, if you're already in great shape and your mid section is just "flabby" then diet is what is going to be key. You have to really pull down your %BF to really lean out. Based on your profile, I think this may be the case.

belly fat...ugh. I have the same problem. I have fat just below my belly button and it seems to never go away. I am 5'6, and even when I used to weight 110lbs I still had this belly...it seems to never go away. I read that stress can be the cause of fat around the lower abdomen. If this is the cause, does anyone know of any treatments that can be used to eliminate stress? Or how to loose the belly?

WOW!! belly fat..grrr.. I do so much to make it go away and I STILL have a role like in the lower belly. I'm not like obese but im not one of those stick girls. I am only 14. I have lost a lot of weight the healthy way through diet and exercise. But no matter what I do I still have a little "bread pack" on my lower belly. I have a pack on top but its just a lil softer down lower..haha.
if anyone has advice i would luv to hear it!!!

run till exhaustion every time you do cardio..or whatever machine you use for cardio...go that extra 5-10 mins at the end AFTER you feel like you cant do no more...and eat lean ..and that belly will disappear but it takes time about 2-3 months so stay calm usually see results after 5-6 weeks...try cardio 4 times a week...hard work and dedication are the only way im afraid...go that extra mile
hope you all good luck

in your picture i am jelous, i haven't ever looked like that, and you see yourself as big? thank your lucky stars that you are not 200 + like me and have to work twice as hard to even lose the little bit you are craving for. by the way sit ups wont work, try running or other cardio things, sit ups just makes the 6 pack happen not lose fat.

well some studies have shown that stress can cause a increase in belly fat. So if your so stressed about losing it you probably won't...so my advice is don't stress over it just keep on with what your doing it sounds like your at a healthy point.

VERY CLEAN foods will do the trick and LOTS of cardio.. 45 mins- 1hr a day should do it(Minimum 4-5 days a week)!

Clean foods meaning: nothing from a box, only fresh lean meats, egg whites, fish, veggies and some fruits. Baked, grilled, poached.. NO SALT, NO BUTTER, NO CHEESE, nothing processed! Pre-pack your meals for the week so you won't be tempted to cheat. Eat 5-6 SMALL meals a day. Remember you are what you eat!

Olive oil in small amounts to make dressing with Balsamic vinegar. Allowing a small cheat a week after maintaining a clean diet and cardio for the week.. Take your multi vitamins and fish oils.

And lastly, DON'T FORGET TO BUILD muscle with resistant training :dumbbell: challenge your muscles to grow.. the more muscle you create, the more fat your body will burn on it's own when resting! DON'T BE AFRAID OF WEIGHTS!

I know what you are all complaining about...I am 27 years old with four young children and can not seem to lose tmy belly fat. I have lost most of my weight everywhere else but my belly seems to love it's baggages. I weigh about 183 lbs and am 5'8". I would love to lose about 45 lbs. I stay busy with four kids and really don't have to much extra time for alot of excerise. Don't get me wrong I love to excerise when I get to do it....just make the time is my problem. What would make it go away faster or easier? Does anyone know?:)

What christal and vadwear said. Did you read the thread before you posted? If we knew a faster, easier way, we'd be telling everyone the faster, easier way and we'd all be doing it the faster, easier way :-).

When I was 28 I had 4 children 5 years old and under. I know finding time is tough. I used to get up before everyone and do workout videos (I remember doing the first Jane Fonda WORKOUT video while my first baby was laying by my side). I also walked around the neighborhood while my husband was still home getting ready for work--I actually dropped a lot of weight doing this. When two of the kids were in school, I would take advantage of the gym's childcare services for the other two. If you want it bad enough, you will find a way.

I would first suggest you strengthening your back by doing varies exercises (conscentrating on the lower back muscles) Strengthening your back will help you abdominal area. Then I would ask if you have had your chloresteral checked and blood sugar levels BTW.....sorry for the misspelling :surprised:These type of health issues can effect the stomach and cause bulging.

which exerciser's and dieter's have been frustrated with for years. It can be frustrating losing alot of weight, but then not being able to "dial it in" and nail that last portion of fat. Here i'll list three tricks to answer the question lower belly fat.
