Ok, fess up....if it were possible to to be healthy and look good WITHOUT working out, would you still do it? I'm interested in knowing how many of you find simple pleasure in exercise.

My honesty is that with the exception of average everyday activities, I would not.

I would play sports and never lift a heavy weight.

Hmmmm... good question... my answer... yes. That being said though, I like the activity of exercise too... go figure... guess it's a nice reward to know you've done it all yourself without the help...

I have a tought time doing things if there is no reward for doing them (in most cases). I probably would but then what would be the motivation? I'm with Hec - sports would stay, but the weights would be on e-bay.

I like the mental part of lifting as much as the physical.

I definitely miss the endorphins when I don't exercise. when I had my appendix out in January and couldn't workout for a month I was going berserk with boredom

I agree with princess, it's the endorphins kicking during the workout and the feel-good buzz afterwards that I have come to love.

That being said, without the problems fitting into my clothes each morning, I probably wouldn't be as motivated to make the time for it.

I'd lift heavy. After going away for a while for the shoulders thing i realized how much i needed lifting. Yes, needed. I literally am addicted to what it does for my confidence...size...etc Seriously the thought i just lifted that huge-arse bar with several 45's on it makes me quite happy...

It also keeps me quite humble. Whilst i still make personal bests every once in a while i see guys twice as large as i am, and i know i have a way to go to where i wanna get.

Oh, and the whole lookin' good thing...yeah i've got that down anyways ;) I would like to play sports again someday too though.

I think that I would still at least take my morning walk. I really do enjoy watching the sunrise and being outdoors. The time to be alone in the company of others I think is rare. I use the time to think about all the good things in my life and how to make the bad things better. I also take time to thank whoever may be in charge that I live in the country so I don't have to use a treadmill. Treadmills must be like prison.

I would stop lifting my little barbells absolutely. I accidently scruffed my knee the other day and it has marred an otherwise perfect tan. This is very distressing.

No I wouldn't. Although I feel better while at the gym and afterward, I hate the time it takes out of my day. If I could look and feel great by osmosis I'd never step foot back in the gym except to 'visit'.

Ok, is looking good and feeling good mutually exclusive? Im perhaps gonna sit on the fence, I love the buzz after a workout. I love the way my legs wobble and my shoulders shake. If I could achieve that without a workout, hmmmm Gees this is hard.

Dr. Phil told me the best indication to the future is the past. I was soooooo lazy in the past I would hate to think of going back to that. So, nope I would still workout!

I would probably enjoy it as I would be already in shape rather than this fight to get into shape, you know, have the energy and everything to do what I enjoy in sports, tennis, skiing, hiking, etc.

Ron has told me over and over again, If you look like a large pear and you just lose weight with out exercise you just turn into a small pear, I did that for years, I gotta go to the gym, I like the results and I wouldn't have it any other way. :dumbbell:

hell no. If I could look money without the work, I'd love it. I'd be the laziest man alive. I'd drink all the time and party, not caring, cuz I still look great. It sucks thinking about this.

Caught this on the news tonight:

CTV.ca News Staff

Updated: Sun. Jul. 4 2004 12:17 PM ET

In the "too-good-to-be-true?" department, a Toronto doctor may have invented an anti-fat-cell treatment -- one that other doctors have some concerns about.

"It's too good to be true. Possibly it's too good to be true. But it works," said Dr. Stan Gore of Lipidoctor Medical Slimming Clinic.

His treatment is a mixture of creams that are rubbed over fatty areas plus an infusion of medications under the skin to help fat cells shrink.

Patients like Monique are lining up for the non-surgical treatment. She has a flabby stomach area -- the residual effect of having two children -- that she can't seem to reduce even with strenuous exercise. She's not one for surgery or liposuction.

"I want my stomach flattened. it doesn't even have to be drastically flat. It's just to lose that centre fat that's the hardest," she said, adding she was happy with her results.

Gore, a cosmetic surgeon and anesthetist by training, terms his treatment infusion lipolysis. He says he's worked on it for three years. It involves injecting two drugs used to treat shock in emergency rooms to make fat cells smaller.

He claims to have treated over 200 patients and that it works with few side effects.

"I'd say our success in terms of visible measurable results is close to 100 per cent. In terms of patient happiness, contentment -- about 90 to 95 per cent," he said.

But other doctors are concerned that he has never published the details of his treatment.

"If we're going to be injecting anything into a person or patient we need to know what it is and what are the potential effects," said Dr. Mitchell Brown, a plastic surgeon.

In fact, some doctors have said they have grave concerns about the medications Dr. Gore is injecting. Health Canda is investigating to see if these treatments contravenes federal regulations.

Dr. Gore says he has put all the details of his treatment on his website.

But Dr. Brown -- also a spokesperson for the Canadian Society of Aesthetic and Plastic Surgery, whom CTV News asked to look at the treatment -- says he couldn't find enough scientific details to satisfy his concerns.

"We need studies that look at what the circulating levels of these medications are in the blood stream and how much of this gets absorbed, where does it go before we should be using it on a regular basis," Brown said.

Still, the promise of fat loss without diets or surgery intrigued Sandra Coffey, who didn't mind the price tag of up to $1,800.

"I lost two inches around my thighs and about two inches around my love handles and my stomach," she said.

And that's why Gore says he's getting calls from doctors around the world eager to learn more -- even though there are many questions that still need to be answered.

With a report from CTV's Avis Favaro

I need to go for my walks - my kids are too stressful - that is my time away that I really need - incase anyone doesn't know, both of my boys have autism, so breaks for the caregiver really is a must - they are trying me at this moment

The pleasure that I get in having EARNED something is much greater than just HAVING it. I wouldn't trade my workout for anything. I've never had the tendency to gain flab, nor do I aspire to become a professional bodybuilder. But I take special pride in 'creating' time for working out despite being an ordinary person with a multitude of daily commitments. This, for so many reasons, one of which, as Anni had said, is to find solitude and time for introspection, which is so rare and precious a thing these days. And what a stress-buster it is!

I love putting my 220-lb brother-in-law (me at 170) in place in our workouts :)

For example, yesterday we were doing sets of 6 on the bench. I put 50 more lbs on than he did and loved the look of disbelief when I did it!! :)

Whether we like it or not, we were designed to use up a certain amount of energy for every calorie that we consume. There's just no way around it. The problem is, that we don't have to do physical work to get those calories anymore, so we eat them without burning them. Physical exertion feels good because it's what we were naturally born to do. Diet & Exercise. There's no way around it.

Fell off the wagon, stopped going to the gym. IT IS NOT POSSIBLE in the real world. I am living proof the a bad diet and no exercise will not give you the body you crave. Going to get back on that treadmill and try to catch the wagon.

I would still lift weights and do yoga, but I would NEVER get my lazy butt off the couch for cardio again! I can tell you that!
