i'm new to the workout aspect and wondering what the standard cardio workout would consist of. i have an elliptical trainer if someone could give me tips on how many times and for how long for a standard cardio workout. thanks

If you're just doing cardio, then I usually recommend 30-45 minutes at a sustainable pace. You don't have to run or even jog to burn calories. Just get your heart rate up and maintain it up for a period of time for basic cardio. Of course there are all kinds of other cardio exercises, but in the end they all burn calories.
Maybe start with some basic power walking, then progress to a combination of power walking interspersed with light jogging.
