This forum hasn't been seeing much activity.

What's the latest big PR you've hit?

I finally hit my bench goal of 185, the next week hit 190 and then 195. Its funny when you finally hit it the mental block is gone and strange things like 10 more lbs. happens.

I also upped my DL max by 5 lbs. It was a good month. Didn't up the squat max though.....maybe next year.

closed HG300 right handed....after closing my 2006 #3 COC....prolly around 3.1....one of the hardest HG300s i would bet...small spread but last 1/16th is a killer

kinked 2 white IM nails underhand pretty good....just need to finish them off...sadly it seems I have more power with underhand bending using my wrists then with overhand under the chin...which is alien to me...also kinked a yellow just barely....which puts my best overhand bending efforts on part with a 10 yr girl...

pretty happy with my recent +230 dip and my +140 chin(almost got 2)....

I loaded a 150lb oddly-shaped "package" onto a truck...had to carry it a ways. It's my PR at work lol...considering my workouts have come to a temporary pause (until my new job).

Hit:

315 squat - sloppy(GMed it a little) but it went up.

225 bench probably could do more now it has been a while since i tried(working on getting used to benching PL style). Thsnks to wrestler for teaching me how to bench correctly.

385 sumo DL which wrestler actually was there for.

140 overhead with a split stance.

menace, how the heck do you do dips and chinups with so much weight? Do you just use a belt and plates? for dips youd have to put over 4 45 plates, pretty crazy.

yes...i posted a video of my dips in my log.....you can see it's a chain belt...I barely got 5 plates through the center....thankfully those plates also got gaps at the corners for holding them so I can put chain through that and get 6-7 on.....just not sure if the belt can support so much weight.....i definitely take them to their limit...already ripped 1 belt.....I am thinking i am going to have to buy my own chain belt and bring it to gym...it will prolly be 100$ that rated for 300+

this is what you should be striving for when doing chins/pull ups or dips.....always aim to increase the weight.....just like any other exercise......most people dont use any external resistance beyond their bodyweight and dont see much gains after the intitial period...

i've been trying to do my chinups with just an extra 20 pounds and it is 10x harder. the good thing is after i drop the weight, normal chinups seem much easier.

Andrew time to start....I think you'll see a lot of gains in your bench and generally upperbody strength when you start. Also my shoulders have never felt better....

one thing that i've found that makes pullups/chinups much more fluid and somewhat easier is leaning back a bit when i do them. then it's more of a chest up, as your upper chest actually touches the bar instead of trying to pull your chin above it.

Was the split stance any more comfortable for you?

Guys, when posting a PR, let us know how big it is. For example, Tim... 325 is great, many people never get that third wheel, what were you hitting before that...

And remember, even if its a small PR, like 5 or 10lbs, if you worked hard for it, then it's still something to be proud of.

Ah... good idea... prior was 300.... last time I tried a 1RM was November of '05. Maybe not the greatest amount improvement in a year, but made me pretty damned happy!

I feel like I have a more solid base and that i don't lean back as far with a split stance.

i just put up 175 x 3 on bench, and i was feeling good so i went ahead and did 185 x 1! this is huge for me, as you can tell by reading my "weak bench" thread in this forum. i know this forum is not a big fan of benching compared to the other big lifts, but it's kind of a focal point for me since i've always been weak in this area for some reason. i'm gonna be absolutely ecstatic when i hit 200+... like i just broke a world record or something.

I finally hit 275 squat. I think my head almost blew up, but I got it there. Struggled to hit that point, hopefully now I'm over the plateau.

great job ecle5c!

I recently bent my first Yellow IM nail/bar. Took me 2-3 days of many attempts but finally I conqured it. Even gave a blue IM nail a fight....kinking it pretty good....I think underhand style of bending is more for me....

A military press is by definition from a standing position, with "military" (not moving) posture.

Got 140lbs for a set of 6 deep overhead squats the other day. I'm stoked about that one. Can't wait to start doing snatches again.

Also got 45lb db's for 6 reps on a bulgarian split squat off a high box. Seeing as I started with 20's, I'm happy about it, and feel these have really helped my hip flexor flexibility. I'll be switching to a bar next week.

You hit 385 sumo DL on 12/30. What did you do during that little over 2 month time frame to jump 45 lbs? I'm looking to bring my DL up quick but I keep making 5lb jumps every month or so. I can't say that I don't like it, but a huge jump every once in a while would be pretty cool.

Well to be honest...i didn't deadlift at all until last Dec. So, part of it might just have been from the transition from not doing them to doing them. However, my squat has gone up 35lb in the same time frame and I have always done them. I have been following a modified Bill Star linear 5x5 program
I used deadlifts instead of power cleans or whatever exercise it was for the heavy and med days. I put pull-ups or rows instead of deadlifts on the light day. Also, I don?t do the set of 8 reps it calls for on the med day for deadlifts. I don?t do any other work except for an occasional set of dips or heavy ab work on the light day. I gained about 8lb, so I have been eating a lot and I sleep at least 8 hours a night. By week 8 my body was shit. I couldn?t lift anything. I took a week off and then test my PRs. As you saw, I had 45lb increase in my dead, 35lb increase in my squat and a 20lb increase in my bench. I might have had a 25lb increase in my bench, but my last attempt was as 30lb over my last PR and I failed on that. I have restarted the program rewinding two weeks from where I left off and adjusting the amount weight I increment each set . This is week two and I feel strong.

Some other notes:

I take about 3-5min rest before my last set on heavy and med days. The others range from 1 to 3 increase as the weight increases.

I always stand up and reset for every DL attempt.

I give it an all out effort for that last set. About half the time I want to puke after squats.

I only use a belt on the last set.

I have been popping a spike tablet from biotest ?t-nation.com? 30min before my workout for energy.

I warm up by doing 2 sets of 20 rep body weight squats and jumping around for bit until I start to sweat a little.

I always stretch for 20 min after concentrating on shoulders, back, hams, quads and hip flexors.

I was DL'ing the other day, felt really good on all of my pulls so I decided to push for it and go for 345....previous PR was 20 lbs. less.

Anyway pulled without straps got it about 4 inches from full lock out but the bar started to slip (no chalk either)....it really pissed me off because I had it and had to drop it so that I didnt' drop it on my foot or something.

Frustrating, I know I got the pull but since I didn't complete it I guess it doesn't count......I'll get it don't worry.

Nailed a 365lb squat at 175lb yesterday. I finally have that 2x bodyweight squat! Last PR was 355 about a month and half ago, but I was 182lb so it wasn't quite 2x. I think I that could have got 370-375 but I didn't try. I was so happy I hit 365, I didn't have the concentration left to try for more.
