Okay - we have enough people who say they are interested - so let's hammer out the details....

To officially enter you need to send me your stats - weight, measurements at chest, waist, hips, thigh, calf and anything else you want to track. I will not share this information with anyone else - the competition will be percentage of weight/inches lost, not specific amounts. Feel free to share your weight loss successes with people on this thread whenever you want to, but know that anything you send me is confidential.

Check the guided fat-loss eating plan and the guided fat loss workout threads for instructions on what to eat, how much to eat, what workout to do.

i will post the people who are officially in here as I receive their stats.

I will figure out a prize, (as if great weight loss isn't enough!) maybe a t-shirt from freetrainers or something like that...

So - how does that sound - this will be a very specific diet and workout and check-in routine. Everyone still interested?

Here is a better description of the measurements you need to do:

here is the first step - before Monday you need to have someone take photos of you, front back and side, in a swimsuit or underwear. These are not going to be seen by anyone else, they are just for the days that you need motivation (you can look at them when you don't feel like working out, or when you want to binge) and the weeks that you think nothing is happening - often your weight may not change but you take new photos and can see a difference in your body.

Also - Measure yourself and write it down. It helps to have someone else do it, but it isn't impossible on your own.
Here are the spots to measure:

Around your upper arm - semi-relaxed, hand on hip. Do both.

Around your chest - men around nipple height. Women I do one measurement right under the bust (where your bra goes around, and one measurement around your breast area. Try to do this without a brs on, because a bra will sometimes reduce your measurement a little.

Around your waist - where you wear your pants, usually belly-button height.

Around your hips - turn sideways and look at the widest part (front-to-back), measure around there.

Around your upper thigh - again, at the largest part. If it helps you to be consistent, measure how far down from your hipbone it is. Do both.

Around your calf - thickest part. Do both.

Anything else you want to track, go ahead and write it on your piece of paper with your measurements. Keep these with your first set of photos.

That is your first assignment. Go to it!!!

I just want to make sure you don't want the pics sent to you. We just need to have them. I'm assuming this because the Instant Message here doesn't have a way of sending them unless you have another email that I missed.:(

Still alive & kickin! One question though, I weighed myself yesterday & had a 4 pound change. Is it safe to assume that is primarily water weight? I was only planning on 1-2 lbs / week.

That is fine - it is most likely a little extra water - but sometimes when you start a routine you will lose rapidly at first - keep it up! It will probably slow down as you go.

Oh, and try to only weigh yourself once a week, or even once every two weeks. The scale will go up and down depending on fluid intake, food intake, exercise, many factors, so it can be a real headgame if you weigh yourself too frequently.

Try to weigh yourself at the same time, before breakfast, on the same day of the week.

Yes typ...hide that scale!!!It can really get to you!!I've started weighing myself every two weeks and I'm much happier and find it a whole lot easier to keep a positive attitude...without a scale number weighing on me.

You should really only weigh every 2 weeks...one week worth of work for maybe a pound never seems good...but if you stick it out for 2 weeks the scale goes down further...you should wait at least 2 weeks to weigh.

Hey, March 4th is my 40th B-Day. How appropriate to end things on that day! One other question, what do we do if we get to the goal weight prior to March 4th?

Keep training and eating right to maintain, I guess, or re-evaluate your goals and decide what you want to do with your physique next! there is always another level!

Everything is going O.K. here! Actually, I showed my wife all of the info about the challenge & she is kind of doing an un-official challenge on her own. She took pictures last night & has been tracking all her food. It will give me a little bit more motivation too! My biggest challenge at this point is the cardio. I absolutely despise it, but I still do it. Also, I have to go to Miami, FL for business the 1st week of Dec., so that will make eating more of a challenge, but I will figure something out to make it work.

Hey teresa - this is a beginner level challenge - feel free to follow the [program if it suits you. If that is you in your profile picture, i would say you don't have much bodyfat to lose and might want a more complex routine?

I'm feeling great. Well after the first week of following the routine almost exactly, I don't have an elliptical machine at home yet so just trying to do cardio using a punching bag, I am also following the meal plan pretty closely. So far this last week I have lost 3 pounds (hope its not just weight fluctuation), I've lost 1" in my waist/belly. How is everybody else doing?

Well, I'm doing good. I admit that I may not be following the food plan to a T, but I'm trying and definitely eating more healthy.

This week, I struggled with the cardio as one night I only got about 4 hours of sleep. I was so exhausted the next day, I didn't want to do anything.

Also, Friday night, my wife and I had a party for the teens from my church. You can imagaine what type of food we had, including Pizza Hut pan pizzas. I know it has a lot of sodium, but I ate a SBD pizza. Those are great, low carbs and tons of protein.

My usual weigh in day is Sunday, although I fell like a crack addict when I walk by the scale! My clothes are much looser, and I'm starting to fit into clothes I couldn't anymore.

I've been looking into purchasing a weight bench set. I think that is one thing that is holding me back right now. Although I've been losing 1-2 pounds a week, so I'm not complaining.
