Okay, here is the biggie question for me to test some knowlege here, LOL----

I had my thyroid removed totally when I had cancer 12 years ago I guess it was. I have been on synthroid, a substitute for the thyroid hormone. My continual question to doctors is HOW am I to lose weight when my metabolism is controlled by this PILL? For instance, I could work out or not work out and my metabolism is still based upon this pill...?? They just look at me and say, "well, it is a struggle" I would really like to hear from some fitness trainers who have specifically dealt with this and losing weight as the doctors just do not seem to be understanding my frustrations. Is there anyone here that can help me know what will work best in my case? Thank you!

Have you talked to your pharmacists? They seem to know more about drugs than the docs do sometimes.

No, that is a good idea, but I get the just of the medication and it's process after 12 years, I just don't know the best way to go about losing the weight that this stubborn forced, measured metabolism medication creates. Thanks, though, it's worth a shot! Appreciate it.

Your metabolism is based on the pill...yes...but it is to simulate a normal thyroid level. This drug is alo used in the veterinary world for hypothyroid dogs....as soon as they are on it their metabolism normalizes and they begin to lose weight. Weight training builds muscle...muscle burns more calories than fat. So with a normalized thyroid level and exercise the weight should slowly come off.

Have you thought about talking to a different doctor. Or asking for a referal to a specialist, nutritionist etc. You might also want to do some digging on your own on the internet (using credible sites of course) and the manufacturer of the drug might also be a source of info.

I agree with the suggestion to talk to your pharmacist. I use them as resources all the time. They really do know alot more about drugs and how they affect us than most doctors do. And I bet they are more willing to find an answer for you thank a busy doctor.
