I do it because I enjoy it...there is a beauty factor involved, of course, I want to have the greatest legs and the firmest butt in the universe , but I actually enjoy working out in itself.

I don't give myself deadlines and I am patient. I don't want a specific result immediately. I just get a great kick out of putting my muscles to work.

Just don't turn it into a stress factor would be my advice. Have fun, that's the purpose of it all! :dumbbell:

I do it to stay fit and healthy, plus look good.. LOL I help coach my son Soccer, and Football team and we have to keep a good example for the young ones. I also like getting compliments from people. If I don't work out for 3 or 4 days I feel weak and scrony, so I try to work out at least 4 days a week.

Hmm motivation the ability some day to move sick amounts of weight. I would love to do something unhuman some day and bench 800lbs raw no shirt squat 1100 lbs with only a belt and deadlift 1000lbs with only a belt also. lol

To be a healthy 85 year old... I see many seniors in unhealthy conditions (sometimes you can't help it) but I want to be alert and aware and healthy when I'm old...

I am with Tim on this one, and the "fit look" comes as a bonus. I've been off for a week now and will be off for another 2, feels like I lost something.

To add to that further, I saw a picture on the weekend of a fellow finishing a marathon... not a half marathon, a WHOLE marathon... below it was his name and age... 81 years old... good golly... the guy was in incredible shape... that right there was motivation for me....

My modivation is my future. Like Tim I want to be a healthy 80+ year old. I see my family and neither my gradparents nor my parents are in any sort of good shape and i see how it effects them. I also want to look great in my bikini, but that is mainly a bonus. This website does a great job of modivating me to get to the gym, and seeing others there makes me workout harder.:)

I think my reasoning for weight training has changed since I began. Now, I simply don't want to fit the "average joe" mold. Screw that, I don't aim for mediocrity, I aim to the best I can be. I don't want to look like the average under- muscled skinny guy that I see walking around nowadays. No, while there doing there leg extensions and pec dec flys, I'll be struggling under the weight of heavy squats and nearing black out as I pump more heavy ass sets of deadlifts. That's why I train. Keep on training:dumbbell:

i know when i get off the treadmill/elipticals that i can't get rid of the smile. Endorphinitis... it's a drug addiction! Literally!
Then there's the intuative goal seeking method... Measurements- waist/bicep/seeable results, then doable results in miles/beats per minute/speed-time/etc... Proof of progress in life and play!
Rewards for achieving a goal- a weekend break or meal out.
Simple Motivational Statements are easy to find on the net like;
I am what I eat- I am what I choose to be (to eat) - It's not the dog in the fight it's the fight in the dog! - I can and I will etc... etc... A statement a day adds a kilo to the bar a week... Honest!

Seeing results of my exercise motivates me both in terms of body shape and fitness level.
On those rare days when I have low motivation, I just do exercise so that I can tell the gym people at the end of my 25week program, "Your plan didn't work although I followed it perfectly!"
Give them no execuse, like I was slacking off.

When my 15yr old son tells his friends "Feel my mom's muscles". Now that is cool.

I started working out when I quit smoking and it is the number one reason I have not started again.

My motivation is the #s. Not the ones on the scale, but the ones on the inside of my jeans that say 16/18 instead of 24x. It's knowing that before long I'll have to buy all new clothes to replace the ones I'm floating around in right now. And most of all, it's the happiness in being able to walk or ride where I want to without being in pain at the end of my trip.
