Anybody have any good ideas for a severe sunburn treatment? I went for a 6 mile walk today and I guess the sunscreen wore off at some point and I got a BAD burn..it's blistering up and yuck it's gross and it hurts. It also made me REALLY hungry for sugar...strange, I had to have a bowl of oatmeal crisp cereal.. bad bad. I know to use ice and all that good stuff but just thought I'd ask if anyone had any treatment ideas..
thanks!

thanks padua, i may have to run to wal mart and get some noxema..seems like it would burn but i'll trust you!
bhardy, I always heard not to eat carbs in the evening, especially simple sugars, that's why i felt so guilty about the big bowl of sugary cereal. don't you worry about me starving. I'm in better shape now, but trust me, in those pics I really was not. Skinny, but in horrible shape. Thanks for the concern ...

sincerely, the lobster

aloe vera is great for sun burn cooling and keeps the skin moist but use pure aloe vera gel

The Conditioner by Paul Mitchell; it's a leave-in hair conditioner. I once dated a hair dresser many moons ago, and she gave me some after a bad sunburn. Takes the sting right out, and helps prevent peeling.

the actual aloe vera plant is good for it to not really the lotion and it also works so you don't mark....my mother at 15 was in a house fire and in Puerto Rico they really did not have alot of creams for burns(1973)she still uses it when she gets an oil burn.....ooh and if any one is interested vipor rub works for nail funges ;)

another one I heard about (but haven't tried myself) is natural yoghurt - apparently takes the sting out and really cools the skin
don't know if i want to get burned to see if it works though :)

Aloe is the #1 remedey. Its natural with no alcohols. Get it right from the plant and rub it on. You won't peel or be red. And hope you feel better soon.

my gosh people are so caring around here! aaww....

padua I didn't try anything crazy ...the noxema just made the skin feel cooled temporarily.. not bad. Aloe is the best though, you're right Ivan. However, I am peeling. that was a bad, bad blistering burn though. I had to take the day off of the gym because I couldn't lift my arms or anything. And the calf machine or leg press...forget about it! not on these shoulders!
thanks all, you're very kind.

I know I'm coming in late but my dad is a beach bum and he swears by vinegar. If you don't mind smelling like a pickle. :)

My mom always kept aloe on the stove for burns; we just split the aloe spike in half and taped it on the burn; works if you don't stab your burn w/ one of the spiky leaves (OW)!

My mom used to use vinegar too. At the beginning of summer we always buy a bottle of aloe after sun gel and sometimes the spray right along with the sunscreen, cuz no matter how careful you are you still end up burnt at least once, somewhere.

A mix of aloe vera, solarcaine, and banana boat sootheacaine did it for me. numbed all pain that I was feeling, and an oatmeal bath works wonders to.
