Let me get to the point: I don't think I can lose weight.

Call me a pessimist, but I just don't think it's gonna happen. I'm gonna try out the routines laid out for me by the site... but, honestly... I just really don't see it happening for me.

Maybe I'm just so used to being overwight, I can't see myself any other way. I dunno.

Not to mention the fact that working out makes me feel like crap. Not so much physically, though. More emotionally. For me, it's kinda depressing.

Okay, so you need some type of therapy to help you change your stinkin' thinkin'.

Why, if it is so pointless, did you come to this site? And why, if you are so pessimistic, do you endeavor to try anyhow? You must not be as pessimistic as you want the world to believe.

depression can be managed with a combination of therapy and medications, but most effectively when a healthy eating plan and workout are put into action.

No one can make you become positive or motivated. They can push and prod and tell you how they do it, but in the end, it is just you and your life.

What do you want from your life?
The only difference betwen a rut and a grave is the depth of the hole...

Maybe your pessimism is an excuse you use so you don't have to take responsibility for your health?

I am an ex deppressive... After pill popping, seeing a psycho quack weekly and all that learning ways to be stress free, etc.... I've become a better person and have learnt the tricks that make us all happy. I'm lucky as my private health care gave me free access to the best psychologists, psychiatrists and neuro surgeons in the land(uk). So I do practice some strange cognitive exercises that bring my life up to a happy and understood relaxed mind.

You have the power to change everything in your life. The first destressing anyone can get in full power is exercise. You say exercise makes you feel like crap- I rubbish that! Get some good interval training going on the bikes or ellipticals and get a mate to encourage you to keep going when you can't do anymore(get a personal training session).. YOU WONT BE ABLE TO STOP SMILING!!! Adrenalin and all will ensure that- if you don't smile you haven't exercised at all! So get with the program and start believing.
Sort out your constantly pessimistic lifestyle, set aside one hour to moan and make plans for you- write it all down, close the book and forget it till tommorrows time for worry... make goals, plans for exercise time, a new grocery list and buy it in ready for your start date.
You will never succeed if you don't learn about yourself, plan yourself and make rules on you - So write down a diary, make simple goals like. Plan a weeks food and buy it in ready, Eating no carbs after 7pm(fruit, veg, breads),, get 5 fruits/veg portions a day,, limit to 2 slices bread a day and one starchy veg,, run early morning twice a week 10 mins(in a month 20 mins, 3 days) MAKE IT YOUR LIFESTYLE.
Don't say I have to run in the morning, say I want to run in the morning or I want to run more often in the morning!!
and learn PATIENCE as Rome wasn't built in a day.
and I wish you the very best of regards and I wish you DETERMINATION..

Don't give up...

You need a positive attitude.

I have been big as long as I can remember, at my peak weight, I was 335. After 2 years of lifting and aerobic exercise, I have dropped 55 pounds. 30 of it in the past 15 weeks after controling my diet with the help of southbeach.

I have made exercise part of my life. I am highly disappointed with myself that I have missed 3 of my session this week because of meetings and other matters beyond my control.

Listen, I am by nature a depressed person. But, a combination of therapy and medication helped me. Granted, I had a "depression buzz" that usually floated right above a full-blown suicidal onslaught. Also, the exercise does help, too. Please see your GP and have him or her make a suggestion for a therapist. Or, if your workplace has some kind of assistance program...use that. They can refer you to someone to get the help you need. Whatever, just don't let it get you down. That hole I crawled in was deep and comfortable after a bit of time. You have to get out. No one is going to make fun of you at the gym for going and doing something that will make you feel better in the long run. If they do, they are just jerks. Plain and simple. Please keep us updated. Good luck.

Oedo, why do you call yourself a pessimist? You said that you don't think you can see yourself any other way other than overweight, why is that?

Do you have an imagination? Can you attempt to envision yourself as being thinner than you are right now?

Why do you feel depressed about working out? You said it's not physically, but emotionally. Please elaborate on that so we can better understand where you're coming from.
