wouldn't that be a snatch. It cant be that important as I haven't even heard of it. I'd say the parallel squat, even though I use a front squat more because its more specific to wrestling, and most of my squatting is on boxes. but theres other posts on this subject.

I would think for overall strength dl or a squat.......but for exploson and speed clean would take it.......kinda like comparing apples and oranges.

yes snatch is most correlated with success in explosive strength/power....power cleans/hang cleans are used more widely because the form is easier to learn...a while ago I read for example that snatch is 76% correlated with jumping for example vs 55% with squat and 60something with clean/jerk....

snatch teaches your whole body to work in unison to generate as much power as you can...

deadlift on the other hand still is very effective and can be even more beneficial because you're able to use more weight....thus strengthening your lower back, hamstrings, hips, and core

"The best way to get faster is by getting stronger.

Who is going to be able to Squat 300lbs with more velocity? An
athlete with a 320lb squat or the athlete with the 850lb squat? The
answer is obvious if you make the discrepancy severe. So before you lie down on the bench again and, like monotonous factory work, bench-press your eight sets of three with whatever percentage you use, it may be wise to ask the following questions of yourself."

Quoted from Aaron DiPrima on elitefts.com

Sort of like apples and oranges, but its still all fruit. Although I do have a particular disdain for that term. "the best excercise." best for what?

It depends on what position you play. A lineman's most important exercise is probly the squat, where as a wide receiver's most important moves would probly be olympic lifts, plyos, SAQs, sprints or something.

Lineman also need to be fast off the ball. Cleans and squats are important for ALL football players. Lifting for football is similar across the board. The real difference is in the conditioning and agility plan.
