A couple of months ago my wife and I adopted a retired greyhound track dog. Everyone told me that when I take her for a walk that I should never let her off the leash because she was not trained to come and I'd never be able to catch her. I worked with her in the back yard and around the house for a few weeks and she did fine. Came every time I said her name. I figured she'd do ok off leash. I took her and my golden for a walk couple weeks ago. Yep... let her off the leash. Nope... didn't even seem to know I existed when I called her. I'm too big to run distance. Oh well! ran for 30 min while she troted ahead of me. But I caught her, ha! She turned into a pasture and got corraled by a fence. I love that old fence now cuz I sure I'd still be running if she hadn't found it!

whatever it takes! Those retired dogs are great - my sister had one and she ran like the wind.

Hay skeld2001 to really get a good workout for cardio find a track and turn her loose then chase her, I'll bet you really get chiseled. Also it will give the dog a good workout too. I've heard that those dogs make great pets. You might take her to an doggy school for training, they are never to old to train.

Chase her? Oh no! not again! Besides, I think she'd lap me every time I took 10 steps! I'd never been to the greyhound races, and had no idea that anything without a motor could move so fast. She was born in 94'. The lady who had her was going to take her to the pound if no one gave her a home. I took her sight unseen just to save her. Just knew I'd regret it but she's beautiful. White with a few lite brown spots. I wish I were as lean as this dog.

If it's true what they say about a greyhounds devotion and love, You'll have one heck of a pet. I have a little yorky and he's about the size of your dogs head, but he's the most loving dog I've ever had or seen. I got him when my wife's mother die and it really took her out of her depression. Even as small as my dog is I can't out run him eather. It seems 4 legs are faster than 2.

Skeld2001. I know what your talking about I have a little Jack Russell and it will run off at every chance it gets. Just the other day my wife took the dog out and it got loose. She hollered, and I came a running and ran after that dog for about 1/4 mile full force. I caught the thing and it wasn't due to my speed, I think I scared the crap out of it because when it looked back and saw a 230-pound man chasing it; it just rolled over and starting pissing everywhere. OH! Yes, that was a great cardio workout and it’s one I hope that I don't have to do again for a while. Skeld2001, you could be on to something with this new cardio machine.

lol. Very funny story. This could give new meaning to the after workout shower! If mine rolled over and did that I'd probably have a siezure from laughing. I've had a few pitbulls. Great dogs, I don't care what anyone says. I used to put a harness on them leash them up and jump on my bike. I never got to pedal much though. One time one of them saw a cat run into the garage of a house as we passed. He made a sharp right, I bounced off the road a few times. Ran into the garage before the dog could eat the cat, and spent the rest of the evening picking gravel out of my butt. Last time for the dogy bike ride there.
