hey guys.

So my Doc says I have mild hypertension... my Blood pressure is normally 135ish over 85ish. It has been this way for the better half of a decade, I have ignored it until now.

I am going to fight this one head on, so here is what I am doing and what I am asking for some advice on:

-I am going to change my diet drastically, I am a diet soda addict... I just went cold turkey. The wife and I are going to change our grocery list, anyone have a good one or a site that has good recepies that are simple?

-I don't smoke and I don't drink. So... lol looks like I should startin drinking a little at night, but I will keep it under control, obviously I have never had an issue with Alchohol; I don't foresee one.

-I workout. The wife and I walk on a nearly daily basis and I do an intense workout every few days, I try to alternate a run (3 miles-ish) and a weight routine... but my weights are very... eh, sparatic. I just do what ever, for a few sets, get in a good sweat and call it after about 35 minutes. Anyone know of a good routine that would help me tackle this problem?

Thanks for the advice guys.

Hi sean - everything you are looking for can be found here :) in the nutrition forum there is a good grocery list - look at the stickies. There are also tons of recipes, most of them pretty simple.

I wouldn't start drinking if you don't drink - it really won't help your hypertension enough to offset the calories or dehydration.

get on a regualr routin - sign up for one at the top of the screen here - answer questions about equipment, goals and how often you want to workout and the sites generates a printable plan for you.

Walking is great...but more intense cardio will do more for you. add in speed intervals or sprinting if you can, or choose a few days a week that you do your cardio at the gym on an elliptical where you can run without impact to your joints. or find some dvds you can do at home, something more vigorous than walking.

Hopefully all these things will add up to a better blood pressure reading in the future...if not...sometimes it is genetic and you end up on meds.

Ugh I hope it is not genetic. I don't like the idea of Meds... I shy away from almost any drug. I bairly take asprin...

I will get back on a regular routine, had one from here I liked back in the day... gona see if I can find it again.

Thanks!
