A very popular and effective new class of supplements is the fat burners. Some examples of these include Ripped Fuel, Hydroxycut and Xenadrine, to name a few. What most of these supplements have in common is the fact that they all contain dosages of ephedrine, caffeine and aspirin (or similar drugs that mimic their effects).

Many people ask "How safe are they?" If they are taken properly, they are safe, and very effective. The following information is based on an Ephedrine - Caffeine - Aspirin stack, with no specific supplements in mind. Many find that this home-made stack is more effective than the pre-mixed supplements you can buy off the shelf, but this isn't necessarily the case. A few notes of caution before we proceed:

You should consult a doctor before taking any of these supplements to see that you are in good health. Some health concerns include high blood pressure, insomnia, depression, all of which can worsen because of these supplements.

These supplements alone will NOT help you burn fat. They must be combined with a strict diet and exercise plan in order for you to see any results. Don't think that you can eat pizza and burgers all day while taking these supplements and still burn fat.

You should never take ephedrine or caffeine after 6:00pm, or you will have problems sleeping at night.

Let's continue... The Ephedrine/Caffeine/Aspirin (ECA) stack is very effective in even very small dosages. The problem is, your body adapts to them and you will need more to get the same effect. This leads people into constantly increasing their dosages, which does cause bodily harm, and in some cases even death. The ECA stack must be cycled in such a way that your body is never allowed to get used to it, and that way it doesn't build a dependency either. The common dosage of Ephedrine is 25mg, Caffeine is 200mg and Aspirin is 325mg, although 325mg of aspirin over an extended period of time can be harsh on your stomach. You can try to find lower dosages, or even coated aspirin with stomach guard.

6-week cycle. ~ Anything more than 6 weeks straight is not recommended...

Week 1
Take one ECA dosage per day. You should take it early in the morning before breakfast or cardio.
You will notice that you feel more awake and alert when you would normally feel tired.
If you do cardio in the morning, you will be able to go a little longer.
You will sweat more during your workouts, your blood pressure will be higher and your pulse will be faster.
These are all side-effects of speeding up your metabolism.
Near the end of the week, you will notice that the effect doesn't last as long.

Week 2
Take twice a day. Once before breakfast, and once at around noon time. Instead of noon-time, you can take it 30 minutes before your workout, if your workout is before 6:30pm. Any later than that and you're risking losing sleep that night!
You should start feeling that kick again, as it felt at the start of last week.
Again, by the end of the week, you should be feeling that its effects are decreasing, which moves us to week 3.

Week 3
Take three times a day. Once before breakfast, once at around noon time, and once at around 4:00pm.
This is the highest dosage that you will ever take. It is high enough to be very effective, but not high enough to harm you.
For the past three weeks your metabolism has been at an elevated level. You should already notice some results in your body fat percentage.

Week 4 | no ECA stack this week..
This one week lay-off ensures that your body does not build a dependency for the stack. Your metabolism will still be elevated from the past few weeks, and you should also be involved in a strict diet now, which will prevent you from starting to put on fat again.

Week 5
Take the stack twice a day, as you did in week 2.
This dosage will be enough to get your body revved up again after a week of no ECA.

Week 6
Take three times a day, as you did in week 3.
This is the final week of the stack. Continuing this will make it ineffective, so we do not recommend it. After this week, you should not take the stack at all for a while, let your body level off again at a steady metabolic rate, after having burned off a fair amount of fat. You should continue your diet and exercise program and you will not notice any 'rebound'.
