Yeah... and how do men get the camel toe? I just don't want to know.

Spandex is just a bad idea all around, unless you are biking.

But at least it keeps their junk from hanging out the bottom of their shorts, ewwww. Men! please! wear some sweat pants or at least some tighty whiteis under your shorts!

pardon me if i offend any of you who wear spandex, but the other day i was working out and was surrounded by men wearing spandex shorts. i don't know what makes any of you think that this is attractive, but it's not. if any of you wear spandex while in the company of anyone other than yourself or someone you are related/married to, i would suggest that you stop because it has a nauseating effect on human beings in general. it's also very 1980s - and really, who wants to go back to that era besides the woman at my gym who thinks she's auditioning for flashdance even though she's 80?

just a thought/public service announcement for any of you who might fall into this behavioral pattern.

howdie - Is it ok if I continue to wear spandex when I bike the streets? The basketball shorts I wear to workout in would really bunch up and cause problems on my bike.

jonathan, biking is a different story. you actually have a reason to wear spandex then. i'm just talking about the people who walk around in it inside the gym like it's no big thing. in some cases, this only allows others to see that it is "no big thing."

this one dude wears the spandex shorts at my gym. I always wonder why someone would subject themselves to that. Working out has the same effect as cold water to the package. Spandex shorts in the gym is like jumping in cold water and then walking around naked. Not a good idea!

Have to agree. Spandex at the gym... really this goes for most women too... is just not flattering. Now, if you can just get that fat, hairy old bastard who keeps wearing a thong to the beach to cut it out...

Well, I am going to be the voice of dissent, which as I type this is really kind of silly, but none the less here it is. I am not at the gym to flatter anyone and couldn't care less. However, if I had more than one pair of spandex shorts you can bet I would wear them on cardio day. My thighs chaff something terrible and spandex was really a savior as far at that goes. Although in principle, if someone is trying to flatter or impress someone, I agree spandex would not be a prime choice.

Maybe this is a UK thing, but why do some men wear spandex shorts, then normal shorts over the top? I can understand they are trying to avoid the obvious lunchbox by wearing the normal shorts on top, but why not just wear normal shorts on their own and leave the spandex for the bedroom?

might not be spandex, might be slid shorts. Soccer goallees, and players wear them, and my weight lifting coach wore them under his shorts in high school. And i have worn them before as well, quite comfy, keep everything in place, and the underarmor kind pull moisture away from your skin, and keep you cooler. But never just the spandex lol. Some oen might get their eye poked out lol

<~laffin at this thread...
I think the whole spandex thing is like speedo's...I Don't wanna see a guy in either one! Spandex was popular in the 80's, under shorts, but it was hidden for a reason..
But....I see DanielJLoves' side too...so I guess we don't have to look...<and won't look to keep from laffin> ;)

ROFL also at this thread......I have a "special" couple that go to my gym that wear striped spandex with a cut out shirt made into a tank top. Is there anything wrong with it "No" but its just funnier than sh** that they come outside looking like that!!! Just think, they had to get dressed so they know what they're wearing and look like wtf are they thinking....ROFLMAO

To all that do wear spadexto the gym, thats just my opinion..Keep wearing them, that style is TIGHT!

spandex is an evil material that was never designed for men at all. Plus tight clothes in the gym lead to embarrasing situations

I wear spandex shorts (with cotton shorts on top of them) and lycra or cotton singlets. I rather be seen wearing that than seein some guys at the gym showing their cracks whenever they bend over to pick up a dumbell and also will wear them rather than have some one look at my balls when I'm doing leg presses or squats or doing the bike at the gym. You wear what makes you feel comfortable.
2006/09/08, 09:52 PM
lmao...now that u got that off your chest for your 1st post....do you feel better? cuz it's a 2 year old post...and no we dont really care...wearing spandex may just mean u have no style...

why not wear cotton sweatpants/jumpsuit? that way everyone wins...

I wear spandex underwear when lifting. Helps to prevent hernia's and its SOOO much more comfortable when squatting.

I personally have a problem with 115lb college freshman thinking underarmour is actually for working out in.

You guys know the only reason why people are not wearing spandex at the gym is because they don't make the clothing anymore. Who says I don't have any style. Look at the weird apparel some women wear where they have letters in their but and then get mad when someone tries to read what it says. As for some of the men, I see a lot of them dressed as if they are going to play basketball and there is no court to play at.

I did check them out today, 49.00 a pair here for the compression shorts. The t shirts are the same price. Next time I cross over to the USA I will get me some.

Try ordering directly off of their website underarmour.com; since they don't allow discounting of the products by retailers, their prices are basically the same as if you bought them in the store.
I love their stuff, especially out here in the desert in the middle of summer.

uhmmm...what I said above, but with a little better grammar :(

"Howdiekat" - first, just to let you know a little about me- I am a 6'5" 230 lb white man who works out 4-5 days a week. It's very important to me to continuously stay in shape, but I am not really a gym fanatic.

I let my wife read your message and she was as perplexed by what you wrote as much as I was. I understand everyone has different tastes, but do you really find a man in spandex (nauseating?)- even men who are in good shape?
I guess everyone has his or her tastes. Personally, no gym fashion nauseates me. I guess I just encourage freedom of self expression and don't really care what anyone else is wearing.

I happen to find spandex shorts VERY attractive and functional and my 120 lb wife practically rapes me when I wear them (easy, I'm exaggerating, sort of, maybe). My point is that you hate it - obviously many do or claim they do (whichever way the fashion tide turns right?)- and some people feel the exact opposite as you.

Not all men treasure the idea of wearing the now popular baggy-a$$ knee-length potato sack shorts that many men do. I personally can't stand trying to do a cardio or lower-body workout with baggy shorts that engulf my legs and get in the way. And not all women think that a well toned man's form is a horrifying sight.

So keep up your campaign to hide men in potato sacks if you must. I'll keep my lycra shorts and I guess people like you will be offended by the sight of me.

Thanks for this discussion thread.

Short answer...even an in-shape man in Spandex will "protude", when protusion isn't necessary. That being said Leotards on women is perfectly acceptable at my gym...email me for directions.

I know I'm bad! I'm going to leave this thread now.
